Poll: Rand Paul Easily Leads in Senate Race
By David Weigel 2/24/10 11:05 AM
For some reason, Kentucky U.S. Senate candidate Rand Paul never gets called the "frontrunner" in that race. Secretary of State Trey Grayson, seen as the favorite of Sen. Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.), still receives that title. But it's another day and another poll -- this one from Magellan Strategies -- showing Paul crushing Grayson. He has a nearly 2-1 lead, 44 percent to Grayson's 23 percent, and a whopping 31-point net favorable rating to Grayson's 11-point net favorable rating.
The secret to Paul's success? He's not seen as a fringe candidate, but as an embodiment of the Tea Parties -- which have a 67 percent favorable rating among GOP primary voters. And he's aided by the endorsement of Sarah Palin. Twenty-eight percent of Kentucky Republicans favor Palin in a hypothetical 2012 primary to only 4 percent who favor Paul's father, Rep. Ron Paul (R-Texas).
The younger Paul has been running a pitch-perfect campaign. One example: his rapid-fire response to an ad in which Grayson accused Paul of supporting "Obama's war on coal". Another example is this closing answer at a debate in Paducah. Watch how Paul trains his focus on the parts of hardcore libertarianism most popular with Republican voters.

So let me understand, because I’m just a professional mathematician and so this might be too hard for me:
Poster says, “Rand Paul said he believes X”.
Your response is, “No, Rand Paul — spokesman for his father’s campaign — said Ron Paul believes X.”
I suppose this is true but it doesn’t wholly absolve Rand Paul. He was working as a loyal soldier for his father’s campaign. He chose to associate with him and he is using his father’s organization.
Therefore, as both a son and disciple of Ron Paul, it is perfectly reasonable to assume that the son, who communicated his father’s views, holds the same ones unless told otherwise.
It’s a reasonable assumption, for example, to assume that Robert Gibbs holds the views that he expresses everyday if he were to run for office.
Unfortunately for the Birchers-cloaked-as-libertarians that comprise the Paul camp (and note that for all of the differences we are to assume that Ron and Rand have with each other, a Paulbot will invariably defend both) the Pauls never have to be confronted with their views.
They never have to respond directly. They are always permitted the most generous interpretation of their remarks and are always permitted to say “that’s not what I said” without having to say what they really mean.

The name of the spammer that needs ZOTting is actually “ brady jonathon” (space after the y).

Oh, I definitely wasn’t suggesting that you’ve hurt Poor Awwegwa’s wittuw feewings. Far from it! I’m sure she laughed her head off when she saw your post. I certainly did!! If anyone can take care of herself around here, Allegra can. My point was simply that you won’t win too many friends on FR by trying to tell off one of our most respected veteran contributors. (I seriously doubt she could be told off, anyway, by you or anyone else. It was an amusing attempt, though. LOL!!)
Welcome all the same. You’re scrappy, which is a good thing. Just don’t get yourself booted too soon. Unless you are a retread; then, by all means, get yourself booted ASAP!! ;^)

Frankly, I don’t want you to get zotted. I love the Paulbots. When they respond, they’re easy to bat around like a cat toy.
What you guys typically do is post-and-run. Paulestinians.

I got one too. My response was not friendly.

Downtown Roanoke, where you’ll be accosted by parks, plants, and bicyclists.

If you have factual information that you want to post and can give credible sources for then please do, that is why most of us are here, to read it and incorporate it into our own knowledge.
If you want to make your personal “assumptions” that you seem to value so much, then please spare us, but at least don’t try and pass them off in a form as useful facts that we can take with us and use in other discussions and have ourselves looking like fools when a more precise person proves us to be not credible.

What is that supposed to mean? Will you please say something substantive rather than making oblique references?

In downtown Roanoke, I've had the business end of a firearm pressed against my skull by an opponent. Can "Allegra" say that? Why, yes, little troll, I can. As a very young adult, I had a .44 Magnum held to my head in a holdup at Southmore and Dowling in Houston. My boyfriend was relieved of $48 that was in his wallet.
I have also been in some pretty scary situations in Baghdad, and they will remain that in spite of your efforts to trivialize them. But don't whine about it; I just keep going
Yeah, I didn't think so.
Wrong again. You Paulines just stay wrong, don't you?
Now, I'm going to tell you to "run along." You became tiresome quite some time ago.

Evidently you are one of “those” guys, just go back to post 114 to refresh your memory of what I posted, if you want to ask a question then remember that you already did and I answered it, there isn’t anything new to cover, just go up thread and reread my posts.

I know.
Nobody in Roanoke has to worry about whether or not that smiling Achmed is sporting a belt.
That’s for sure.
Quite laughable this one.

Virginia is for Lovers! (the 'men' in the pictures seem awful ..... un-'manly' don't you think? The 'thespians' are the best!) Heh! I went to high school in Virginia (military brat.) Of course, we lived in the DC area. I'm sure my parents though Roanoke was far too dangerous for us.
