A law that makes it harder for law enforcement officials to monitor businesses that sell crime guns needs to be repudiated by the president and repealed by Congress.
Congress should get rid of a law that hides information from the public about guns used to commit crimes and the stores that sell these weapons.
Before Barack Obama became president, he vowed to get rid of the Tiahrt Amendment, which law enforcement officials say handcuffs them by shielding crime-gun data and dealers' violations from authorities.
Milwaukee Police Chief Edward Flynn says the law - named for its sponsor, Rep. Todd Tiahrt (R-Kan.) - made it harder for his department to connect the dots on Badger Guns, though the gun store has sold guns linked to the shootings of six local officers.
Effective law enforcement is data-driven. And if a law constricts that flow of information, state and local law officials are hampered in their abilities to trace crime guns to their sources.

“crime guns?”
I am sure a lot of legal businesses are out there wanting to sell guns to criminals. lol. They could just buy the gun from the trunk of Mojo’s 1984 Caddy.
Crime guns? Gotta get me one of them there crime guns.
These people are dumber than rocks....
Liberalism is, without a doubt, an insidious mental disease with no known cure. These people need to be in a padded cell away from the general populace.
I don’t blame cops. Everybody wants to make their jobs easier. It’s just that, unlike with my job where I try to be more efficient, or whatever, the only way for cops to have it easier is for the state to become more powerful and intrusive. Sorry, officer, guess you’ll just have to work harder.
I guess we need to go to Mexico to obtain a crime gun. There is no such thing in America, where firearms are legal to sell.
Maybe if they actually told the truth once in awhile.....
[Just saying]
The instant that a cop runs the serial number of your gun, it becomes a “crime gun.” So, if you get pulled over, tell the cop you’ve got your (totally legal) gun with you, and he takes it and radios a trace request, it’s a “crime gun.”
Of course, reality has no meaning in this situation. You didn’t commit any crime, and the gun was not connected to a crime. But the local political hacks can rend their garments and gnash their teeth over the existance of another “crime gun” in their jurisdiction.
Hence the Tiahrt amendment.
I'd be arrested and charged with a felony. I live in Illinois.
That’s one of the states particularly guilty of abusing the process.
Liberals are very stupid.
