Scott Brown is living up to his early billing to be an independent senator, voting "yes" with a few other moderate Republicans on cloture on the jobs bill.
Here's Brown's statement, issued as he headed in to vote against the great majority of his party.
I came to Washington to be an independent voice, to put politics aside, and to do everything in my power to help create jobs for Massachusetts families.
This Senate jobs bill is not perfect.
I wish the tax cuts were deeper and broader, but I am voting for it because it contains measures that will help put people back to work.
I was disappointed with the continuation of politics-as-usual in the drafting of this bill, as it was crafted behind closed doors, without transparency and accountability.
I hope for improvements in that process going forward.
All of us, Republicans and Democrats, have to work together to get our economy back on track.
I hope my vote today is a strong step toward restoring bipartisanship in Washington."
Rookie slime
Progressive slime.
The Modern Day Conservative in a nutshell.
He’s what he said he was. I am just God-awful thankful that seat isn’t occupied by a Kennedy or someone who has an automatic “D-for-dumbass” stamped on it, if you want my opinion.....
Strike one.
I’m not criticizing him. He has to do what he must to get re-elected in 2012. There are some issues on which we’ll good-naturedly disagree with Scott Brown. At the end of the day, he’s no Ted Kennedy and that’s good enough for me. I’m not looking for perfection.
I agree. But better than a Kennedy-stamped alternative.
And thatnks to your explanation, you just summed up why this country is so fraked: “He has to do what he must to get re-elected....”
Here’s a thought, how about doing what is right for the country first instead of thinking about your own political career?! Novel thought, huh?
(No balls)....one strike.
fifteen billions dollar bill that will reconcile with a bill in the house spending over one hundred billion more dollars.
I can hardly wait to see the improvements.
And he shut down his office phones because?????????
‘A few other “moderate” republicans...’ all that was needed to establish the credibility of the writer.
Bad move and/or bad timing on his part.
He ran as a hardcore fiscal hawk. And his very first vote is for BILLIONS MORE in spending. If it were a social issue or a nominee vote (or even if it happened after a record of casting fiscally sounds votes), that’d be one thing. But to cast your first tally against everything you ran on is outright fraud.
He will take a huge hit for this.
Rookie mistake. Brown thinks he can rise above the rancor and unite the parties. He’ll know better soon enough.
I was disappointed with the continuation of politics-as-usual in the drafting of this bill, as it was crafted behind closed doors, without transparency and accountability.
and? and???
Its still Massachusetts. If you want a guy there who is going to be 100% conservative, he doesn’t exist. I’ll take a guy who is with us 80% of the day rather than a guy who is with us 0% of the day. Politics after all is the art of the possible.
Its a piker compared to the $950 trillion Obamacare monster. A jobs bill is not really obscene by Washington spending standards.
That is not how politics works. The minute they are elected, they start running for the next election. Always has been that way...always will be.
Spoken like a true loser.
