I just caught the interview with an Air Force Captain from base security. He says 2 car thieves tried to evade police by dodging onto the base. Security responded, set up a roadblock to stop them, and when they attempted to run that roadblock, base police opened fire and stopped them permanently.

Tragic for the officers who will have to go through an anal exam for doing their duty, and completely avoidable because the driver made the choice about how this would end.

Here in Portland, OR the locals are tearing the Portland Police apart over a shooting a couple of weeks ago. A young black man who was distraught over the death of his brother, was talking about having a gun on his person, did not follow police instructions and in a very confusing and fast moving incident, made the wrong move and a police sniper dropped him. We had Jesse Jackson in town last week stirring things up and the situation continues to simmer.

The bottom line here is if you challenge a duly sworn Officer of the Law, he has the authority to protect himself and the public. They have the authority to use firearms, and only an idiot or someone who is committing suicide by Cop does not do what they are told with a gun pointed at them. Only in the movies do the bad guys run police road blocks, and in this case it was DOD Police protecting a National Defense facility, and they were in no mood to let this guy play games.

Job well done in my view.

%%%%%%

Unfortunately a huge number of people now believe that rules do not really apply to them. They run red lights or around the barriers at train crossings, so why should the sight of a gun register in their brains as a command to be obeyed!
