'I even sympathize with aspects of social conservatism'...'life is more complicated'

'Tis the little turns of phrase like that which make me think you are a RINO or worse: the words used and memes indicated are typical of leftists, and the categories involved are foreign to conservatives.

The other difference, you know, is that while one cannot hug a child with nuclear arms, one can stop neither radical Islam nor emergent Communism / fascism with raised eyebrows.

Those who live their life espousing "tolerance" and get their panties in a wad facing REAL intolerance are singularly ineffectual and defending their cultural turf against militant threats -- see also the *whole* Geert Wilders affair.

I do agree about the Separation of Education and State, though. Dewey was a [censored] of [censored]-[censored]ing [censored].

Cheers!

I’m a libertarian (domestically) and old-style conservative in foreign policy (which I take to include border policy.)

I’m glad you gave me some allowance at the end there but I’m not a RINO or anything of the sort. If anything, I’m just more radically individualist than you. I go by the typical moral code of non-coercion of others, until they transgress against this code themselves. At least that’s what I’m saying in the simplest form.

And I’m sure you know, the ‘memes’ and ways in which things are expressed is often descended from unfortunate things. any ‘right-wing’ expressions of patriotism descend from that son of a bitch Woodrow Wilson’s ‘progressive’ era fascist reign over the States (he was a nascent fascist, a tyrant and a virulent racist of the worst kind.)
