On sidelines of EU meeting, FM cites insufficient evidence in Dubai case. Talkbacks (46)
Foreign Minister Avigdor Lieberman met on Monday afternoon with Irish Foreign Minister Michael Martin to discuss the implications of the reported Dubai spy case.
Meeting with a number of his European colleagues on the sidelines of a conference of the EU foreign ministers in Brussels, Lieberman told his Irish colleague that there is no evidence indicating Israeli involvement in the assassination of Hamas terror chief Mahmoud al-Mabhouh last month.
He added that were someone to present information beyond what is in the newspapers, Israel would relate to it, but since there is no such information, there is no need for Israel to deal with the matter.
Lieberman said that there are many false accusations against Israel on any number of issues, and that there is an Arab inclination to blame Israel for everything. He went on to raise the possibility that someone in the Arab world was responsible for the assassination.
Lieberman explained that in the Middle East, there are any number of internal battles inside non-democratic organizations and countries.

Mabhouh's body was found in a Dubai hotel room last month. Suspicion has fallen on a hit squad from Israel's Mossad spy agency.
Meanwhile on Monday, the EU was questioning Israel about falsified European passports used in the assassination suspectedly the work of the Mossad.
Spanish Foreign Minister Miguel Angel Moratinos said the EU was "extremely concerned" that suspects in the Jan. 20 killing of Mabhouh carried fake EU passports.
He also stated his intention to broach the issue with Lieberman.
Israel has linked Mabhouh to the smuggling of arms into Gaza and the slaying of two Israeli soldiers on leave.
“What if they decide they don’t like your Governor, your Councilman.. your mom?”
The Israelis have never given any indication they kill anyone but terrorists. Their actions in Gaza to spare non-combatants went so far beyond what any other country has ever done, it is amazing.
In short, your hypotheticals are silly and belie your true agenda.
A Dead terrorist is the best kind.
I usually do, chief.
You didn’t ‘speak for yourself’ when I called you one your moral equivalency..
"One" what? Please be clear.
Is there a specific point you would like to see addressed?
There, fixed it for you. Do you really think playing dumb shields you from everyone knowing where you're coming from..? I pointed out you were making moral equivalence between terrorist and those who seek to protect us from them and you're arguing over 'one' verses 'on'.. give me a break.. over and out.
You forgot to ping humblegunner.
I thought I just did. If you mean post him on the private line, I will take your advice next time but isn’t it better to have it out in the open? Thanks for your heads up.
My Governor is incompetant, but he's not a member of Hamas, or any designated terrorist group.
Nor is my councilman
My Mom, a vet dead for 35 years now, but no, never a member of a terrorist group.
Thank you for the intelligent conversation, if that's the best you can come up with, you're a moron.
Is FR a Christian house, non Christian infidel types not welcome, or is that your vision of America?
You're welcome.
if that's the best you can come up with, you're a moron.
What, that if Israel is free to whack terrorists in Dubai, then why can't it whack folks in your home town?
Is that such a stretch? Why are the Israelis immune from international law?
Got an anti-Semite neighbor? Is it cool if the IDF takes them out?
If not, why not? They did it in Dubai and you applaud. What's the difference?
Note that I have made all these points without the name-calling you engage in. Quite telling.
Strawman argument.
Agreed.
OK, whatever. I don't see how that works, but if you say so, fine.
The difference between the US and the UAE is that the latter has no diplomatic relations with Israel, and in fact refuses to recognize Israel’s right to exist. Given also that Hamas has declared and is conducting a war of annihilation against Israel, and that presumably the UAE is supporting the Hamas side of that conflict, I don’t see why Israel is obligated to make nice with them. Equating the assassination with one in the US is a red herring, even given the assumption that Israel had anything to do with it in the first place.
