It was more than a cold if you read about the severity of his sore throat. The amounts he was bled may or may not have been decisive in a failed effort at recovery but it is not correct to say “he was bled to death”.
Today we have some doctors who argue that those who give blood at regular intervals gain benefits and safeguard themselves from iron toxicity.
