Actually, it took a failure of Miers to get through the Senate interviews.

A lot of people took credit for that, but she just didn't do well.

And Alito was nominated by President Bush very quickly afterward, and, in case you've forgotten, is now on the Supreme Court.

I haven't forgotten anything. Roberts and Alito are on the SC because of President Bush.

Thanks for the history lesson.

The GOP had a Senate majority in 2005.

Not one GOP Senator had even suggested he would vote against Miers before she withdrew.

To congratulate George Bush for nominating Samuel Alito is like congratulating George Bush for withdrawing his Immigration Amnesty just a few months later.

Conservatives were Bush’s political base.

We went apoplectic on both those issues, and Bush angrily backed down on both issues.

By 2006, Bush didn’t care what his base thought.

The result - Obama and huge Demo majorities.
