Dubai Ruler's Media Office
The hit squad that killed a senior Hamas official in Dubai may have entered the country using diplomatic passports, senior officials in the Emirates said yesterday, calling on Britain and other European countries whose passports were forged to launch a full-scale inquiry.
There is still information that Dubai police will not make public for the moment, especially regarding diplomatic passports used by some of the 11-strong hit team, who used British, Irish, German and French documents to enter the emirate last month, said Lieutenant General Dhahi Khalfan Tamim, Dubais police chief.
The United Arab Emirates is deeply concerned by the fact that passports of close allies, whose nationals currently enjoy preferential visa waivers, were illegally used to commit this crime, said Anwar Gargash, the UAE minister of state for foreign affairs.
Lt Gen Tamim said the assassination of Mahmoud al-Mabhuh, a founder of Hamas armed wing and whose death has been widely blamed on Israels spy agency Mossad, was no longer a local issue, but a security issue for European countries.

The neverending Dubai story.
I just love all the coverage media gives to Palestinian suicide bomber and the support they get from the Palestinian Authorities.

Oh, horrors!

Diplomatic and or forged passports! Simple analysis of that contention.......so what!
Too bad we really don’t know who these people were.....it makes it hard to award them their medals for courage
Operative phrase: “may have”. And so what?
There are several things that just don’t add up in this story. If the deceased was a Hamas commander, didn’t he ever go to Gaza? It would be so much easier and less messy to get him there. And why would Mossad steal the identities of real diplomats from their allies just to enter a relatively easy country? They wouldn’t. I’m sure they have countless untraceable false identities fully prepared that would get them into Dubai. It just doesn’t add up.
Especially because the ‘eleventh commandment’ is, ‘don’t get caught.’ Would they leave an obvious trail back to Israel? No, they wouldn’t.
Was Mahmoud al-Mabhuh in Dubai illegally under a false identity?
Not that I've read, it's not clear why he was there. Nor relevant, it's a nice place for a vacation, with banks. Not that a high ranking Hamas official has any need of banks or pleasure. But I think he was there legally under his own name.
No, though they may simply have made an extradinorily large number of mistakes. Or it may not have been Israel. In any case, pleasure travel for palestinian terrorists now involve a bit more heartburn.
Maybe they could have hit him in Gaza, maybe not. Obviously this was an opportunity which either presented itself or was set up by various palestinians. You’ll note how most articles forget to note there have been three arrests, all palestinians. They were citizens with foreign passports, not diplomats. Like you my first reaction was that the Mossad would never do that, they’d use false identities. But I’ve been told it’s a common tactic, something to do with the electronic validation of name, birthdate etc. Don’t know it that’s true. Needless to say if Mossad did it, they didn’t expect any of this to be made public. But using real identities is a bit scary. The diplomatic passport thing makes no sense to me either. On the one hand the benefit of the diplomatic passport is a fast track through immigration, on the other I’d assume there’s a bit of scrutiny as to who you are. Stealing a diplomats identity, OK maybe that would work, but if the Mossad stole the identities named, none of them are diplomats. Home many diplomatic passports do they process in Dubai. Nobody noticed? Nothing much adds up, probably never will, but it’s an interesting story. And if the “good” palestinians pulled this off to eliminate a Hamas operative and embarass Israel at the same time, good for them. Their American training is effective. Good to know, till it’s turned on us.
May have is a story
So what?
When the topic is juicy, that's a question you ask once you've got a "may have". Unless it's a John Edwards or Bill Clinton "may have"
You're not a reporter, are you?
Palestinian suicide bombers? Ancient history, they’ve moved to Iraq and Afghanistan where they can kill Americans. Christians in India, you get the idea.
Yes, and presuming they did this, it's a better thing to be raked over the coals for than bloodying the lip of a terrorist, like we do to our SEALs here in the US. A lot of noise about nothing.
If these people thought that they were going to be caught before, during or after the hit they wouldn't be movie stars with all of their movements charted. If everyone knows who they are and where they went it would seem that they would at least be questioned.
Apparently this is a real life "Mission Impossible" project and we'll be listening to guesses about it for some time. Maybe the next one is already under way and we just haven't heard of it.
this is too delicious for words

I'm stunned, I thought the EU would pontificate similar to some of the nonsensical drivel which the U.N. regular releases.
