The Summer Games has become so huge that its a guaranteed money-loser. Think Athens is swimming in cash after hosting theirs? Barcelona? It could very well be that almost nobody is going to want to host them by 2020. Then the IOC will give the games to Havana or Pyongyang who’ll use it for propaganda purposes, not for sport.

There is a theory that it helped to negatively impact the finances of the entire Greek government. That may be a major overstatement, but who knows.
