Sea Shepherd Receives an additional €1 Million Euros from the Dutch National Postcode Lottery

Extra funds to support ongoing project to protect the Galapagos Marine Reserve

On February 4th, 2010, at the Goed Geld Gala in Utrecht, the Netherlands, the Dutch National Postcode Lottery not only donated the annual amount of half a million Euros, they also handed over an additional check worth €1 million to Geert Vons, Sea Shepherd Conservation Society’s General Director of the Netherlands and Alex Cornelissen, Director of Operations, Galapagos. The extra funds will support Sea Shepherd’s ongoing efforts to protect the Galapagos, a UN World Heritage Site.

Despite clear rules and legislation, commercial fisheries are still exploiting the legally protected Galapagos Marine Reserve. In particular, the illegal finning of sharks, the catching of tuna, marlin and other illegal poaching activities form a serious threat for the Galapagos Marine Reserve.

With this project funding, Sea Shepherd will both logistically and financially support the local authorities to protect this delicate and unique ecosystem. A primary goal of this project is to set up an “Automatic Identification System” for vessels. This will enable all the authorities and organizations involved to monitor illegally operating fishing vessels and to act instantly to enforce exiting regulations.

The Dutch National Postcode Lottery has made this concrete project to stop illegal poaching possible, thus enabling Sea Shepherd to better protect the Galapagos Marine Reserve. Sea Shepherd is extremely grateful for the support it has received.

Since 1989, the Dutch National Postcode Lottery has donated almost €3 billion to support good causes. This year, 75 social and environmental organizations will receive €513 million from the Dutch National Postcode Lottery.

There is no reason to kill whales. I do love wildlife and spending time out in the wild, watching whales as well.

You are arguing from an emotional viewpoint as well as using invalid examples.
And personally, if it flies, swims, slithers, or runs and goes well with chives, it’s gonna be on my plate right next to the mash potatoes.
I like nature myself.
But that ‘enjoyment’ doesn’t extend to starvation, thank you very much.

I do not deny that. It is an opinion of mine and nothing else.

Hey, if you’re starving I can send you some canned goods that are barely past their “best by” date, if it’ll help. If the old folks home is mistreating you regarding meals, let’s talk.

If moms basement is 3 acres with a four car garage valued at just under 3 million dollars, you are dead on.

Okay, so you are in mom's garage. Have a hotpocket, and listen to your whale songs, and fantasize about Capn' Paul and his Vegan Butt Pirates.

Ran out of facts already? Have to resort to insults? Such a winning strategy.

Sea Shepherd throwing bottles of but butyric acid, real enviro there that.
What happen to the acid that misses, or falls into the ocean?
Won’t that hurt the whales?

Last I knew, throwing acid at people was considered illegal.
I hope Pete Bethune gets some butyric acid eye wash for his intrusion on the Shonan Maru 2, especially after special boy tried to ram it.

“Their founder Paul Watson, is a long time socialist, and extreme environmental and animal rights activist. He was a member of Greenpeace and also involved with and still coordinates activities with such extreme groups as PETA, the Seirra Club and “Earth First”. He has even dubbed his group the navy for Earth First, and has vowed to continue his illegal harassment of whaling.”

Yes, Sea Shepherd ARE eco-terrorists.
Supporting Sea Shepherd?
That’s a conservative ideal!

He ran out of propaganda in his previous thread early on.
That thread was listed as kitty chow.
http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/bloggers/2452542/posts?page=72#72

Sea Shepherd is affiliated with Earth First, their founder refers to humans as the AIDS of the Earth, and he’s an admitted socialist.
And the thread troll keeps pushing Watsons propaganda.
