WASHINGTON—The federal agency charged with ensuring the safety of IRS employees said it has seen an uptick in the past several years in threats against agency personnel.
In the past four years, there appears to have been a "steady, upward trend" in the number of threats against IRS employees, said an official with the Treasury Department's Inspector General for Tax Administration. That assessment, offered in response to an inquiry from Dow Jones Newswires, is based on preliminary data, the official cautioned.
On Thursday, 53-year old Andrew Joseph Stack crashed his private plane into an Austin, Texas, office building that housed IRS workers, killing himself and one IRS employee and injuring 13 others.
Following the attack, Inspector General J. Russell George said his agency will consider whether changes to security policies are necessary to improve safety.

Propaganda time, Obama will initiate a public service message touting American patriotism and having to pay taxes regardless of the amount, that Obamacare requires your taxes to be paid.

I don’t love the IRS, but, I don’t think at this point anyway, I’d put them in the same league with hitler. Not even close.
I wouldn’t lump as being all the same. There both good and bad people everywhere. There have definitely been some in the IRS that abused there power and ruined peoples lives. Which is inexcusable and deplorable.
I didn’t say they were Hitler incarnate. I just note that Gestapo thugs couldn’t use the “I was following orders” defense. Now, the demonic forces within government which created agencies such as the IRS, they are arguably Hitler-like.
I doubt they worry about their safety, depite the annual rash of Scare Stories about presumption of guilt that are published to insure a whipped compliant populace. This is only one event that happened once, and no IRS employee was harmed.("A"for effort, though.)
I suspect the biggest obstacle in dismantling the machine is not so much the fate of the IRS employees as it is the fate of your local friendly CPA,including mine, who likewise feeds off the system. Then there are the banks, with their tax escrow accounts.
While I would like to see something happen with Tax reform, like everyone else, the history of getting rid of long-embedded parasite infections is not encouraging.
And armed with military-class weapons and the authority to shoot you in front of your children if you should have the temerity to disagree with them.

With respect to those leeches who feed off the system, I can make a strong case that they will be better off with the FairTax: they will have more money, more FRee time and a better sex life, particularly around April 15th.
Anecdotally, I know that many FairTax supporters are CPAs and tax attorneys, and when I present the FairTax argument to CPAs, they like it. CPAs would rather help their clients get rich and prosper, and would just as soon not “do” taxes.
The real problem is that the FairTax movement has not achieved critical mass just yet.
