Authorities have positively identified an Internal Revenue Service employee killed when a plane flew into his office building Thursday, family members said today.
Larry McDonald said officials from the Travis County Medical Examiners office called the family of Vernon Hunter, 68, just before noon. Hunter (pictured right) worked for the IRS for more than 20 years and is believe to have been on the fist floor of the Echelon I building in Northwest Austin when a man flew his single engine plane into the building.
FBI officials said they suspect the man was Andrew Joseph Stack III (pictured below right).
Today, 43-year-old Ken Hunter, one of Vernon Hunters six children, said the family had been expecting the worst after Hunter went missing following the crash.
Ken Hunter recalled his father as devout Christian who was a usher at Austins Greater Mount Zion Baptist Church.
He had talked of soon retiring and possibly returning to school to earn a degree that would help him assist children with learning disabilities. One of Vernon Hunters grandchildren has a learning disability.
He was so involved in her life. He wanted to make sure he could help everybody, Ken Hunter said.
no comment.
Prayers for his family. May God help us all.
I am sure that it is very difficult to lose of loved one to the hands of a deranged terrorist.
Prayers for the Hunter Family as well of those injured by Joe Stack’s terrorist attack.
FBI officials said they suspect the man was Andrew Joseph Stack III.
Oh, so they still haven’t ID’d the body?
Sure it wasn't Andrew Joseph Stack II ?
I haven’t found an official confirmation.
It’s very odd. I heard an FBI agent on the local news here yesterday giving condolences to the families and calling the missing (Stack and Hunter) by name. Then he said that they hadn’t been positively identified yet.
Huh?
That is strange! I wonder why they aren’t officially identifying Stack?
Tony Plohetski, ya got the spell check thing down pretty good. Now you need an editor.
Apparently, you only read the headline or you would know the story is about the man Stack murdered inside the building.
Very sad.
My prayers for his grieving family.
