White House Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel received an earful from Utah Sen. Orrin Hatch on Friday, one day after a leaked administration memo indicated the president was considering naming two new national monuments in the state.
Hatch's office said the senator called Emanuel to complain about the potential unilateral action and Emanuel promised to provide an official response after consulting with Interior Secretary Ken Salazar.
"I made very clear to him that if the Administration goes down this road, it will meet absolute outrage and opposition from across the state and from me representing Utah in the United States Senate," Hatch said in a statement.

At the rate Democratic administrations are going the whole state of Utah outside the I-15 and 80 corridors will become a national monument.
Binger, did ya see this?
Another example of Fearless Leader making friends and influencing the people...
he needs to just GO AWAY!
Great place for an eagle to $hit on.
And Rham replied..........eff off. We won!!!
Obama is pissing off one of the bigger advocates of ‘bi-partisanship’.
This is a move to support the ENVIROWHACKOS! Most of the land that “King Obama” is trying to be steal by decree is oil shale land with BILLIONS and BILLIONS of barrels of proven reserves!
And I hate to remind people, in 8 years in office, GWB (whom I voted for twice) never lifted ONE finger to overturn the EO that Clinton signed.
GWB allowed the sordid EO to stand, regarding the land in Utah (which helped Clinton’s friend Riady).
The resources from that land had been codified in law to benefit Utah schools.
And with one EO, Clinton took that away. GWB never overturned it.
I imagine Hatch hasn’t forgotten; hence, his shot across the bow to the white house. This is a sore spot here in Utah, especially here in S. Utah.
This is why our presidential nomination for the GOP is crucial in 2012. There are literally hundreds of Executive Orders that will have to be overturned, starting with JFK’s EO allowing federal employees to unionize.
We’d better choose a true conservative or we’re doomed.
I have been reading the responses at the Tribune. Lefties are looming big over there. Hatch needs to bring a delegation down here to get some serious feedback. I don’t think we as a country can continue to take our resources out of the possibilities. One of our friends in Alton has a method to extract fuel from coal without having to haul the coal out of here.
Those possibilities exist in many different forms. We don’t need more lands set aside for the Obambi Monster. But Hatch is the talk monster. All hat, no cattle in my opinion.
You are watching a deliberate, concerted effort to deprive our nation of its natural resources. Clinton did it for a payoff. Obama is doing it to destroy our energy capability.
The NP created by Clinton was a corrupt outrage.
I wish my ancestors could have seen this coming and had homesteaded every last parcel of land in Utah instead of holding grazing and forests in common for the use of all in the tight knit towns.
When they were granted Statehood, little did they realize they were giving up control over the lands they held together, in common, for their own community support - lands where they together foraged their cattle - lands that supplied timber for their homes and their industry.
Now the Feds see it as a giant playground for everyone else.
Press conference, media blitz, burning Obama in effigy, etc.
Here is the project I was referring to:
A biomass energy project was awarded $2.5 million in a congressional earmark that Utah Sen. Bob Bennett included in a pending federal budget bill.
Viresco Energy LLC is a company headed by a southern California real-estate developer who owns a ranch in Alton in southern Utah, where Jim Guthrie proposes to turn wood waste, manure or coal into 40 barrels of fuel a day.
The U.S. Department of Energy says the new technology holds some promise but that it wasn’t endorsing this $25 million project.
Bennett’s office says it did some diligence before sponsoring the taxpayer-funded item.
The University of California at Riverside says it’s transferring technology rights to Viresco for the pilot plant.
Alton Coal Development, which is opening a strip mine, says it isn’t immediately committing to supplying Guthrie’s project with any coal.
Anyone got a jackhammer? ;-)
and one other thing (to those who want to learn more), just Google “sagebrush rebellion.”
That is a very interesting photo. Do you know anything of its origin? It looks like someone is making a giant statue of Obama.
It's like holding them as collateral on a debt and eventually turning them over to settle that debt.
