Army Spc. Mathew Brisiel of Spring, Texas, on Friday followed his brother, Staff Sgt. Jonathan Brisiel, when he became the 578th soldier awarded the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier Identification Badge since 1958.

<Latella> what's all this I hear about Obama getting the Brothers to guard the Tomb? Are these the same brothers who were guarding that polling station in Philadelphia? Why, this racial stuff has got to ...
Ah, Emily?
... stop right now ...
Emily!
yes?
These men were related to each other with the same set of parents. Brothers, not "the bruthas".
Oh, that's different. Nevermind.</Latella>

Guarding the tomb of the unknowns is actually the second rarest honor in the Army, behind the astronaut badge. Guarding the Tomb of the Unknowns is almost certainly the strictest though, as the award can be revoked at any time for dishonor, even after the servicemember leaves the military.

And justly so. My parents, two brothers, an uncle and a cousin are resident at Arlington - I revere those who guard them.

Their mother, Cathy Brisiel, said her sons have joined a tradition she knew as a child. She grew up in Washington, and her grandfather is buried at Arlington. "I wish my late husband had been present to witness such an accomplishment for his boys," she said. "I thought my heart would pop out of my chest this morning when I saw my boys in their uniforms."

They saved the real tear jerker for the last two paragraphs. God Bless this woman, and all of the mothers like her!

Congratulations, Mom....how proud you must be of your sons. Thank you, SSgt Jonathan Brisiel and Spc Mathew Brisiel, for your service to our country, for your service at The Tomb of The Unknown.

I had an opportunity to get to know one of these guys a few years back... visited him at Arlington during one of his shifts at the Tomb. A more American group of kids you couldn’t find.

This is awesome. My grandfather & grandmother’s gravesites are approx 300ft from this Tomb. It is a nice feeling having these guys nearby.
