The National Enquirer is now legit, according to the Pulitzer Prize Board.
The body behind journalism's most prestigious award conceded Thursday that the self-proclaimed tabloid can compete with mainstream news outlets for its prizes. Because it broke the story about former presidential candidate John Edwards's mistress and love child, the Enquirer's staff is eligible for the Pulitzer in two categories: "Investigative Reporting" and "National News Reporting."
"We'll see what happens," National Enquirer executive editor Barry Levine said today. "We want to see now that the Pulitzer people review our submission and we expect, obviously, that there's going to be tremendous competition in the investigative category and in the national reporting category."

At this point, more legit than TIME, Newsweek, NYT, WaPo, etc. ......
Agreed.
Exposed John Edwards when no one else would, the came up with a photo of OJ Simpson in the Bruno Magli shoes he said he did not own.
Would love to see them win something, just so they can give the raspberry to the NYT et al.
National Enquirer-doing the reporting the American MSM just won't do.
MIB.
I make my living off the evening news...
OH YEAH!
so Tiger DID cheat in rehab.
Oh yeah, me too.
Let the NE break the story that brings down someone in Obama's administration from Hell or Obama himself. LOL.
Too true. What started as a one liner in a whacky space comedy becomes the literal truth. Sometimes life does imitate art!
What Edwards was doing wasn’t just dirty laundry.
The Enquirer broke a story that MSM was totally blind to, despite the fact there were dozens of MSM reporters and news “producers” following Edwards around 24/7 when this was all going on. They did an excellent job, they persisted and they deserve a Pulitzer instead of the sneering that they got when this story first emerged. But I’m not holding my breath.
Well, the NE will raise the image of the Pulitzer Prize after winning it.
At one time The Enquirer was the top selling publication in the country. They have 'street cred'.
Haven't they been running stories about Hussein Obama boozing it up?
Am I correct, or incorrect in remembering that it was also the national enquirer that broke the Monica Lewinski scandal. It may not be them, but I am almost 100% positive it was a similar newspaper.
“....just so they can give the raspberry to the NYT et al.”
Amen. If the Nat’l Enquirer were to win, at least it would be for a TRUE story, not the lies told by Walter Duranty that got the Slimes one.
