Climate Crackup - A breakdown in Copenhagen saves a divided world from carbon rationing.

On December 18, the Copenhagen climate change conference collapsed. Heads of state from about 120 countries had flocked to the Danish capital, anticipating a historic photo op that would lead future generations to lionize them as visionary saviors who rescued the planet from the menace of man-made global warming. Instead the worlds leaders participated in an embarrassing diplomatic flop.
Officially, a Copenhagen Accord was reached, but the three-page document largely consists of vague promises expressing the political will to combat global warming. Many leaders were already fleeing to the airport before the conference officially closed. This fiasco could spell the end of the United Nations attempts to use a costly and flawed carbon rationing scheme as a way to handle man-made climate change.
The conference came to this humiliating conclusion because the worlds two biggest emitters of carbon dioxide, the United States of America and the Peoples Republic of China, remain at loggerheads. The U.S. needed China to accept legally binding carbon targets with some kind of monitoring arrangement to make sure the Chinese dont cheat. Without these provisions, U.S. manufacturers (and the unions representing their workers) would be at a clear disadvantage, because their competitors in China could continue to use cheaper fossil-fuel energy. From our point of view, declared Todd Stern, the American special envoy for climate change, you cant even begin to have an environmentally sound agreement without the adequate, significant participation of China.
Stern is right. Unless China is seen as participating in the global effort to limit carbon emissions, the Obama administration will have a very hard time convincing Congress to pass carbon rationing legislation during a time of high unemployment at home.
Not surprisingly, the most ideological wing of the environmental movement was livid at the outcome. Erich Pica, president of Friends of the...

Mr. Bailey wrote about climategate and the IPCC's use of non peer reviewed global warming propaganda. I'm surprised he didn't mention it.

“Saving the Erf” is a religion, and it would be best to treat the adherents as religious fanatics.
Reason isn’t going to dent their belief system.

There was a lot of coverage here, in Canada, about how the Copenhagen breakdown (meltdown?) was Canada's fault. The blame-Canada crowd had an awards ceremony & presented Canada with the “Fossil of the Year” award.
http://www.cbc.ca/world/story/2009/12/18/climate-canada-award.html
While I'm sure the coverage of this event was overblown in Canada — I'm so proud. I just hope that the world remembers to thank us, when the “global warming” spell has finally been broken.

“This fiasco could spell the end of the United Nations “
Wouldn’t it be nice if we just end this sentence here?

Warning: they ain't dead yet. If you study the medieval warming period, you will see that it did indeed get a LOT warmer. The point is, it was NOT MAN-MADE GLOBAL WARMING.
A very, very important point is :
THE MEDIEVAL WARMING PERIOD DID INDEED EXIST AND WE MAY BE GOING THROUGH A SIMILAR ONE.
That being the case, we need to emphasize that it might get warmer, but that WE HAVE NOTHING TO DO WITH IT.
Otherwise, if it does indeed gets warmer, algore will be ready with "I TOLD YOU SO ! ! !"

Comrade Zer0 has got to keep hustling the AGW scam to make his investments in the Chicago Climate Exchange pay off. Today it's not looking so good, current price to buy ‘carbon credits’ is about 10 cents a ton.

Todd Stern, the American special envoy for climate changeI'm disgusted that we even have a "special envoy for climate change". Wonder how many others - Assistant Envoys, Assistants, Secretaries, Under-Secretaries, Interns, whatever - my tax dollars are paying for?

Soon the fat lady shall have song. Meanwhile Senator Inhofe gains support to grill the EPA on why any form of additional regulations should be put in place regarding carbon dioxide emissions.
Things are really starting look a lot better then six months ago. November 23, 2009. Since the 62mb zip file made it's way into the public domain, so much has rapidly changed for the better. It is great to watch the AGW house of cards come slowly tumbling down.
Meanwhile I have to prepare for another potential major snow storm hitting my spot on earth. NE is going to get hammered again.
