Does the NJ (Repub) Gov appoint his successor until a special election is held?

The Democrat still plans to finish out his current term – his fifth in the Senate – and seek re-election in 2014

Lautenberg is the poster child for term limits if ever I saw one. These loony left old geezers are worse than the politburo of the Soviet Union.

I wonder if he’s strong enough to handle the chemo. Prayers up.

They are saying it's totally curable.

At his age, the Chemo will be brutal and require a lot of down time.

He should retire and enjoy his remaining years.

Wait, I thought he fell, or had an ulcer. Now it is “curable” stomach cancer.

Hmmm ...

When Lautenberg ran back in 82, he said 74 year old Fenwick was too old to be in office. Now he says that age has nothing to do with the requirements for being a Senator.

I pray he receives precisely the same degree of medical care that he and his fellow Democrats supported — in their recent health care bills — for the average American citizen of the same age as the Senator ... and not one additional drop of morphine.

I hope all turns out well for him. I know someone who had esophageal cancer and had 7 rounds of chemo every three weeks and they were 45 at the time and healthy other than cancer. It took its toll. Very, very tough one. I cannot imagine being any older than 50-ish, enduring the chemo and going back to normal .. not so fast anyway. The toll is took on the 45 year old meant it was literally a year long process including recovery - and even after that year the volume of toxic chemo they received caused some long-term ‘chemo brain’. It's tough. I think the picture the doctors give to patients on the front-side of chemo and what it actually is in the middle of it are two different things.

I won’t wish anyone ill with cancer, so I wish him well.

As a senator, this man is a particularly dislikable do nothing.

It’s fitting there is a major train station constructed in NJ and named after him, in the middle ofnowhere with NO PARKING LOT so the station is an absolute waste and no one can use it. And no one ever hears about that little public funds debacle.

Seriously, this is all about pathologically retaining power. Not much different than Kim Jung Il in my view. An 86 year old man with cancer clings to power, not for the good of the country. Not out a sense of patriotism, but out of a crass selfish desire to cling to power for himself and for his Party. The same can be said of Byrd. Disgraceful.

New Jersey’s 86-year-old senior senator, ...plans to ... seek re-election in 2014.

When he's 90 years old?

Doesn't he have any great-great-grandkids to go play with?

There is nothing wrong with him saying that he wants to finish out his term, but to bring in his re-election in 2012 is sickening.

Where is his sense of perspective and decency? Is he that hooked on the power?? Despicable.
