If Bill Delahunt had done his job, three Alabama families wouldnt be in mourning today. Period.
If then-Norfolk District Attorney Delahunt, his staff or the police hadnt been negligent, corrupt or both back in 1986, Amy Bishop would have been prosecuted for killing her brother. Based on what we know now - and what investigators knew then - probably some charge of manslaughter. But at the very least, Bishop probably would have had a felony gun conviction on her record, teaching her a tragic personal lesson.
Instead, the political culture of Massachusetts taught her something very different: Its not what you do, but who you are.
Its a lesson she might have recalled in 2002 when, after punching an IHOP patron in the face over a childs booster seat, she reportedly announced, I am Dr. Amy Bishop!
The Bishop story is just the latest in the ongoing saga of our states tolerance for the connected or corrupt. The biggest example, of course, is the Big Dig. Everyone in Massachusetts knew it was a cesspool of small-time shakedowns and low-rent scams. Unfortunately, these small scams led to great tragedy: the death of Milena Del Valle.
All that free federal money flowing through the Big Dig tunnels was nice. But was it worth a womans life?
Thats the price of political sleaze we rarely think about. Letting a 21-year-old off the hook after she accidentally shoots her brother may make you feel good at the time. But what about tomorrow?
Heres the frightening fact about Massachusetts. We dont believe theres anything wrong with incompetence or corruption itself. Were only upset when it leads to unacceptable outcomes.
Which is why, for example, Gov. Deval Patrick could endorse the notorious Sen. Dianne Wilkerson for re-election. Patrick was...

Given that the last politician from MA who killed someone was always voted back in election after election I would not be holding my breath expecting Rep. Delahunt to be ousted. It might happen... but don’t count on it.
He’ll be ousted one way or the other. The voters in this state have had enough. This one isn’t going away either. Martha Coakley maybe looking the other way now but when she is voted out of office in November her opponent will have this case on his desk first thing.
Ted Kennedy voters have died off in significant numbers. Moonbats really only vote in national elections, voting local is beneath them. The taxpayers are worried about their next paycheck while government workers in this state are worried about having their co-pay increased $5.00. We have had enough.
The buck never stops for democrats. They just see it as a new source of spending.
I think Delahunt will be announcing his retirement very soon.
Yeah, but what worries me is that they still vote. /sarc
I take it she wasn't arrested for assault?
No, she was arrested and charged with assault. She got probation and was supposed to take anger management classes, but there's not record that she did.
Curiously, the Huntsville, AL police did a security check on her after the shooting, and nothing, including the assault charge, came up. What a shock. /sarc
All those who covered up for this woman’s insanity, or stood by and did nothing with the knowledge they had, have the blood of three innocent people on their hands.
Yes, they do.
So Bush did it? /sarc
