[No. 331] Flood of Reports to Central Party "People on the Verge of Starvation Death"
02/16/10
(According to sources,) an official from the central party revealed, "There are 5,660 reports which reached the central party from provinces, saying that food situation is dire or people are on the verge of death from starvation. Of them, 2,000 reports even spelled out names of people died in their city or county." According to the reports, commerce has collapsed, food supply is completely cut off, and people are barely getting by eating food substitute such as residue from liquor and tofu manufacturing, corn skin, remnants from grain powdering process.
Folks reportedly complain that people are starving to death because currency reform was imposed on already struggling people, resulting in immediate shutdown of markets, disrupting the supply of necessities and food. An official said, "After the currency reform, the market was promptly shut down before establishing mechanism for supplying goods, leading to breakdown of food supply and starvation death of urban workers." At one point, farmers did get some extra bonus, which improved their living condition temporarily, allowing them to purchase some household goods while condition of urban workers badly deteriorated. Some in the party say, "Markets were abolished without addressing the problem of ration system, which is a badly ill-timed decision. Hasty implementation without (proper) preparation led to starvation death of urban workers."

That’s why I’m stocking up as much as I can. Zero will have us just like NK in a year or so
>>Enough potential here to credibly destabilize the regime.<<
.
Starving the Ukraine at the tune of millions didn’t destabilize Stalin’s regime. It only grew stronger.
So, is cannibalism going to play a part in this starvation?
They, the people of North Korea, deserve our prayers.
Thanks for the post.
In a sense, communism and socialism are cannibalism.
Large parts of the human population feeds off of other parts - even to the point of death. Socialism just kills the food source slower than cannibalism.
And provides myriad of measly excuses for their failure.:-)
“...Ukrainians would have been less likely to sit around and wait for their death.”
.
Yeah sure. They would all have grabbed pitchforks, shovels and axes and marched to Moscow where they would have been welcomed by Stalin with cannon, tanks, infantry and airial assault. Lots of luck.
Most Americans have no idea what a totalitarian government can do to its people. Have you noticed what Saddam Hussein did to his people, and Ayatollah Khomeini to his? And let’s not forget Mao and Pol Pot.
This ain’t 1776 no moh where the heaviest weapon was a musket. In order to liberate a nation, it will take a foreign force willing to do so. See WWII.
On top of it, regular military is in real decay, too. Everybody, civilians or military, has been experiencing acute food shortage, if not outright starvation.
Besides, if you have some seed of internal power struggle inside the regime and immediate neighbors trying hard to interfere and influence the political outcome, things are pretty fluid.
This is not the regime in its youth. It lasted for some 60 years and now badly eroded. Brutal repression has been in effect throughout its entire history. Still now it wears out, and barely standing.
Famine always create serious political complications. There should be enough fanatics who are loyal to the regime in order to ensure regime survival. Such loyalty is now gone.
Tanks worked their magic in N. Korea's past. Before 90's, there were some mass uprisings in provinces which were put down by tanks and troops. They don't have enough fuel for tanks. Most soldiers are malnourished and spend most of their time to find something to eat.
“Markets were abolished without addressing the problem of ration system, which is a badly ill-timed decision. Hasty implementation without (proper) preparation led to starvation death of urban workers.” <<<
The leaders should be shot.
My heart aches for all the citizens caught up in this disaster.
It's a tragic day when the CCP pays more attention to George Washington's admonitions to stay out of foreign affairs than our own leaders... even more tragic for a few million North Koreans.
Bump.
You did a lot of research on this subject. Thanks for sharing the info. The North has suffered tremendously during and after the Korean War — I hope that the end of their suffering is in sight.
