NAPLES The Bush brothers packed the house at the Naples Grande Beach Resort.
Former President George W. Bush and his brother Jeb Bush, the former governor of Florida, spoke Tuesday night as part of the Naples Town Hall Distinguished Speakers Series. They talked issues _ everything from health care and the Iraq war to budget deficits and Social Security reform.
George W. Bush, the 43rd U.S. president, has stayed out of the spotlight, limiting his face-time in public since leaving the White House about a year ago.
He and his brother the states 43rd governor addressed a crowd of more than 1,000 who purchased tickets to see them. Tickets to hear the duo speak started at $200.
The brothers had the crowd laughing, clapping and sighing with heart-felt emotions as they showed their more personal side. A few times, George W. Bush fought tears as he talked about the support of his wife in the Oval Office and how his decisions to send more troops to Iraq hurt families in the U.S. who lost their sons, daughters, husbands and wives to the war.

Aha! Now we know who is responsible for "The One" getting elected. Thanks a lot.
And yes, I heard Obama was finally going to come out with "his" version of this disaster.
It could be that all the power grabbing, freedom sucking, economy destroying, death enabling stuff is still in it.
After all, he's the head Marxist, pro-infanticide villain of the whole scene.
I'll let you know if and when we get something put together. I'm pretty excited about it, actually.
“By supporting McCain despite knowing of his progressive tendencies, she is demonstrating that she has no integrity.”
It is certainly questionable.
Me too. Excited that is. Be sure to keep me posted. Hugs.
That's the question I've been asking, Nan. Why in the world is it so important to this handful of people that every conservative despise President Bush as they do? As much as they think I'm "weird" for my loyalty, I think they're odd for caring about it and trying to badger and bully me into losing what is a deeply thought out and carefully considered opinion.
One of them freely admitted on this thread that character didn't matter to him, and that, I think is at the core of this impasse. If character matters, you respect President Bush. If it doesn't, you don't.
You are correct that I am loyal to President Bush, that I view him as a friend, and more importantly as a brother in Christ. I have far higher values than politics - and apparently these people don't.
Character, integrity, grace under fire, class, courage to defend this beloved nation when the whole world was screaming for him not to, deep faith and honor under the most dire of circumstances.
I just don't throw those things away easily. The President earned my respect, and he's going to keep it. (He's already doing amazing things as an ex-President).
The thing is, that the vast majority of conservatives, whether they consider Bush a conservative or not (part yes, part no), admire him for his character.
These guys are in a very small minority, and they act like it, don't they?
(I'll keep you posted about the presentation and ping you when I get it done. I think Obama's "plan" won't make any difference).
Ditto that....for sure.
I should be able to format it for FR pretty quickly, and we'll see where it goes from there.
The idea of a YouTube presentation is enticing, so anything that you can suggest would be much appreciated. (Background music is a big plus, IMO, and I think I can contact someone who knows how to do that).
Then again, you might see what he presents and think my husband is a dolt. ;)
At any rate, I'll be sure to let you know. And may I be so bold as to say, I like the cold weather around here. :)
I was thinking of America the Beautiful as background music - "God mend thine every flaw. Confirm thy soul in self control, Thy liberty in law"..........somehow seems appropriate with this flagrant loss of liberty and self-control of government.
I would imagine most things "out there" would not be complimentary to FR, but I'll look around and see what I can do. It shouldn't be too hard to get a YouTube account - actually, I have one for commenting and lambasting leftists :). Maybe I can check things out from there.
I would probably download it as an MP3 onto my Itunes and go from there.
(IF it has the verse about "liberty and law" in it).
Man, that made me cry. SO well done. SO moving!
(Although I found a nice one with Alicia Keyes and Ray that might work).
“Oh, I forgot. You shoot guns and that’s what makes you a conservative.
Silly me.”
No, my being consistently conservative - since 2004, at least, when I admitted to myself what Bush was and wasn’t - makes me a “conservative”.
I was just explaining what “favor center” meant.
“Some day you may begin to understand these things.
Or not.”
More arrogant presumption.
Yes, you do favor left. Bush was left of center on a good portion of his agenda. You favor him, therefore....
You may continue to post to me if you wish, but I will not respond. (The bald faced lie about my bragging about being a professor when I've never even mentioned it other than on my 9 year old homepage put me over the top. You have no interest in truth telling whatseover).
I've also wasted enough time with someone who has never lifted a finger to elect a conservative. No more. I'm sticking with real conservatives.
It's over, Favor. You lost because you lie.
“Knock it off.”
No.
“Read a couple of books written about G.W.B. and learn that he is indeed a very committed Christian.”
Committed Christians do not side with Muslims against Christians and honorable men do not knowingly violate their solemn oath of office.
“OFW will never let go of her loyalty to her friends, and she considers G.W.B. as one of her friends.”
Considering neither actually know each other, that’s a stretch and is part of her particular pathology. Stare at pictures of celebrities lone enough and you think they are your friends and that you know them.
“Why does it matter if you disagree with her opinion or her loyalty?”
We have to deal with the enemies at our back before we can deal with the enemies ahead of us. That includes liberal Republicans like Bush, McCain, Graham, and anyone who supports them.
“I’m not interested in your opinion.”
You seem to be interested in the opinions of everyone who doesn’t worship your Great Leader.
“I’m sticking with real conservatives. “
Real conservatives despise liberal Republicans even more than we despise liberal Democrats - at least the Dems are open about their aims.
“It’s over, Favor. You lost because you lie.”
I don’t lie, OhioWfanatic. George W. Bush lied, though.... He lied when he claimed to be a “conservative”. He lied when he took his oath.
