NAPLES The Bush brothers packed the house at the Naples Grande Beach Resort.
Former President George W. Bush and his brother Jeb Bush, the former governor of Florida, spoke Tuesday night as part of the Naples Town Hall Distinguished Speakers Series. They talked issues _ everything from health care and the Iraq war to budget deficits and Social Security reform.
George W. Bush, the 43rd U.S. president, has stayed out of the spotlight, limiting his face-time in public since leaving the White House about a year ago.
He and his brother the states 43rd governor addressed a crowd of more than 1,000 who purchased tickets to see them. Tickets to hear the duo speak started at $200.
The brothers had the crowd laughing, clapping and sighing with heart-felt emotions as they showed their more personal side. A few times, George W. Bush fought tears as he talked about the support of his wife in the Oval Office and how his decisions to send more troops to Iraq hurt families in the U.S. who lost their sons, daughters, husbands and wives to the war.

Frankly, I'm surprised you had that kind of judgement, based on your lack thereof at this point in your life.
“Did you ever think, that if it werent for Bush, thered be no Obama?”
So if Gore had won and served two terms in office who would of been after him?
“I look on political office as a calling rather than a privilege because of a good family name and a silver spoon to go along with it.”
Gov Bush didn’t even give any thought for running for the Presidency until the day when Karen Hughes working for him while Gov of TX walked in his Gov office and told him he was leading in the early polls.
Who called you a liar? Lemme at him! I’ll read him his papers. Ain’t gonna get away with that kind of talk. Did you report his abuse? Personal attacks are grounds for getting the zot.
Wow, that is great! Give him a hug for me too. I’m always wondering what can be done to stop that juggernaut. I so fear that we will end up with third world health care. Personally, I seldom have to see a doctor, but I’m betting that the one thing that I need to work and drive, will not be paid for under any new plan. They will declare BOTOX as cosmetic and kick it off the list.
Hey you! You will NOT call my patriot friend a liar. You got it? I will have your butt off this site so fast your head will spin. Now go play in traffic.
I didn't know that censorship was a conservative ideal.
Just remember, FC, that most "conservatives" are okay with Big Government and deficit spending, so long as it suits their agenda and, preferably, they (or folks they approve of) are in charge.
Has nothing to do with censorship. One of the rules of the site is “no personal attacks” and there has been plenty of those going on here.
That may or may not be true -- I'm not going to read the entire thread right now -- but telling someone to "go play in traffic" is not exactly nice, either.
Really, really neat. And he's someone who has the moral authority and life experience to really make a difference in this fight against Obama and his Marxist regime.
As to the newbie who called me a 'serial liar'......I've thought about pinging a few hundred character witnesses to refute his bizarre accusation, but decided against it.
Looks like one of you is enough. :) Thanks, my friend!
Oh, and I know about what they're trying to do about Botox. What they need to do is kick out Nancy Pelosi who uses it to look like she belongs in Madame Tussaud's museum, and keep it there for people who have a legitimate medical need. The problem is, that NO one who has concocted this bill from hell knows diddly squat about medicine. It's frightening.
I wouldn't ask you to do that, but you keep calling me a liberal because I respect and admire President Bush and in spite of my giving you my lifetime of conservative activism (which all can be verified by the scores of people who know me here on FR).
You once screamed LIAR at me (in bigger, bolder letters), when I said I would discuss political issues with you (I still will - no lie). And now more than once I have tried to engage in a discussion with you, and you have walked away.
It appears your only goal is to make snippy remarks and ignore legitimate debate. Is it?
Oh.......but congratulations on finally being able to post without pinging support. A baby step, but a significant one.
Have you ever considered that it's possible to respect and admire a President who didn't shrink government, and still hold those values and be disappointed that he didn't do what he campaigned on?
I am speaking, of course, of Ronald Reagan.
I wanted him to fulfill his campaign promise of getting rid of the department of education, but he didn't. I wanted him to succeed in shrinking government, but he didn't.
He did things I didn't agree with, and yet I never lost personal respect for him. I always knew he was a man of character and integrity, and that never wavered.
If you were a college student in 1988, you most likely would have been attacking me for the same things you attack me for now.
But history proved me right about Reagan, and I am old enough, and savvy enough to know that it will prove me right about George W. Bush too.
I thank God always for providing us TWO Godly, righteous, men of character and integrity to lead us when we were most in need of such leadership.
Hopefully maturity will give you some perspective, and you'll stop calling everyone a liberal who doesn't hate George W. Bush as you do. Actually, I see nothing conservative in any of the behavior of the Bush haters on this forum. And as a life long, across the board conservative, that disappoints me.
It really boils it down into understandable, chewable nuggets of truth. (I even understood it!) He really knows his stuff.
I'll talk to him today about the possibility of posting it (I'm sure there aren't any copyright issues. ;)
Thanks for the suggestion.
I’m looking forward to seeing it. Enjoy your day.
I will. You too!
:-)
Y'all have a great day.
How would I go about putting a power point (from a zip drive) here onto FR?
My husband has IT guys do everything, so he's less computer literate than I am!
There are some personal photos that I would obviously not want to post, so I'd have to take them out, but I haven't got a clue as to how to present the rest. (I can post threads - have done several hundred. It's the power point I don't know how to adapt).
Oh.........and I wonder what category I would post it under??
Any suggestions?
Life is good, Lakeshark. :)
