Turkey needs a new Ataturk, someone to grab it by the collar and forcibly drag it into the ranks of civilized nations.
The current Islamic fervor shows the limits of democracy. The great majority of urban and middle-class Turks support secularism. But the huge majority of the Anatolian koylus--urban Turks ttranslate it as "country bumpkins"-- support Islamist parties.
Turkey is going to get worse before it gets better.
