No work for a plumber at those wages in those states. They should come south and work cheaper.
Not if you’re union.
Yeah, he could do plumbing for a non-union shop. Even if there isn’t much new stuff, there’s always people that need repairs and maintenance stuff done.
They call me for work all the time, even labor work, but I can't help them nor send them anywhere.
How’s that hopey changey working out for you?
His girlfriend is a bookie and she's doing great.
“No work for a plumber in four months? Anywhere?”
1) He’s in California
2) He’s in the Union
3) He’s not MEXICAN
3 strikes and your out, time to load up the truck and work your way up to North Dakota.
Grapes of Wrath in reverse, OUT of California...
It reminds me of a bumper sticker I see on a plumber's truck in my neighborhood: "Work Union, Live Better."
I have plenty of plumbing work I need done but not at union scale.
Could he not list his services on Craigslist? It seems folks are often looking for a good plumber.
“Laid off in October. No work for a plumber in four months? Anywhere?”
I have friends in the SFV, where we lived 1990-2005, who after 30+ years of professional employment lost their jobs and have been 2 years searching fruitlessly. Had to rescue our son last winter. He couldn’t even get a fast food job. It’s a tough time in LA right now.
Last time jobs got that scarce in LA, I went out of work (service mgr @ motorcycle dealer) for 4 months. No one would even hire me to flip burgers. Had to work in a food processing plant for less than minimum wage. Then we had the Northridge quake and that disaster brought in FEMA money, and lots of demolition/construction jobs. The recession ended.
I am in the building trades (flooring). Business is dead in our area for all building trades. The only building jobs around us seem to be government paid for jobs and that is drying up!
in 2008 there were 10 flooring stores in our area, now there are three and two of them are up for sale.
The plumbing and heating contractors are laying off people right and left and a local electrician told me for the first time in his 12 years of working his workplace has no work and will lay everyone off at the beginning of March.
Welcome to the Obamanation.
