California Auto Club Speedway has a history that you might expect a track just 50 miles from Hollywood to have.

The speedway sits on a 568-acre site that once hosted the first steel mill located west of the Rocky Mountains, Kaiser Steel Mill.

The mill produced the steel that helped build the Liberty ships used by the Allies to win World War II.

Sadler, wife announce birth of their son Monday

Elliott Sadler won the race with Carl Edwards to the birthing suite ... with Sadler announcing the birth of his son on Twitter.

“I want to announce the birth of our son Wyatt into the world this morning!! Amanda and baby are doing great!” Sadler posted on his Twitter account Monday morning.

Edwards’ wife was due to give birth at any time, and he had backup driver Mike Wallace ready to jump in the No. 99 at Sunday’s Daytona 500 should he be needed at home.

The Sadlers’ due date was not until early March.

By the time they hit HotLanta, they’ll be warmed up.

These cross country journeys early kind of suck too.. but ya got to follow the rain. :-)

A series of storms will impact California later this week into next...

The first storm will hit later Friday and Friday night with several more to follow. The storms will produce moderate to heavy rainfall through central and southern portions of the state which raises the specter of flooding and mudslides.

Right now they are predicting that rain will be spotty Friday night through Saturday and that Sunday will fall between storms and will likely be dry .
