Sen. Frank Lautenberg (D-N.J.) has hospitalized Monday night after falling at home.

According to reports, the 86-year-old senator was taken to the hospital after taking a spill at his New Jersey home.

"The Senator was taken to the hospital as a precautionary measure," spokesman Caley Grey told WABC News in New York.

Grey told the Bergen Record that it was not clear whether the senator suffered any injuries.

Only Sen. Robert Byrd (D-W.Va.), who is 92, is an older member of the Senate.

The New Jersey senator first served in the Senate from 1983 to 1995. He ran again for the Senate successfully in 2002.

Me also. Too much “old” guard and too much old guard in both the Senate and the house. Term limits and new blood.

Not sure. Depends on how the Legislature in NJ has it set up. In MA, when Mitt was Gov. the Dem controlled Legislature changed the law so that he could NOT appoint someone to the Senate in the event that John Kerry won the White House. Then they wanted to try to change it back, after Teddy the Swimmer died. Buncha goons.

Thank you. If the NJ legislature wrote such a bill denying the Gov the power to appoint, why couldn’t the Gov just veto it?

I guess it depends on if the NJ legislature has enough votes to override a veto. But we’re getting ahead of ourselves. Lautenberg may just recover from whatever ails him. But who knows, even if he recovers, he may decide hanging around DC ain’t worth it, anymore!
