I wish that the airplane seats did not lay back. Some people are just stupid about it. These idiots who think an airplane is a bed and get mad when anyone dares to disturb them deserve to be throw off.So very true. I'd like to see airlines go to non-adjustable seats, given that legroom has been minimized.
But if they think reclining seats are a necessity, design them such that the seat cushion of the person wishing to recline moves forward, allowing the backrest to assume a less vertical angle, with the headrest remaining fixed. That way, the recliner sacrifices his/her own leg room, rather than intruding upon the space of the person behind.

But if they think reclining seats are a necessity, design them such that the seat cushion of the person wishing to recline moves forward That, and put there a small electric motor that on pilot's command returns the seat to the upright position. If the motor does that very slowly (2-3 minutes for a full cycle) then nobody will be startled. Currently crewmembers have to walk back and forth several times and ask passengers to reconfigure the seat.
