A Bloomington, Ind., restaurant owner who had been running an obscure and uphill challenge against Sen. Evan Bayh for the Democratic nomination claimed Monday that shes just 1,000 signatures short of qualifying for the ballot.
In an interview with POLITICO, Tamyra D'Ippolito said that after news broke Monday morning that Bayh was retiring, her campaign contacted Democratic officials in Indiana to request they help her get the needed signatures by noon Tuesday when they must be verified by the states 92 country registrars.
It would be something close to a nightmare scenario for Democrats: were DIppolito to qualify for the ballot, she would be the likely nominee and the party would be left to face the GOP with a political neophyte who said she is running in part to take on a party establishment she said practices sexism with a big S.

No problem.
ACORN’s got Mickey Mouse, Donald Duck and a thousand of their buddies ready to sign.
Is it too late to get Mike Gravel to move to Indiana?
I would if I lived in Indiana.
At least she knows what it takes to run a small business
Or just beat the party bosses’ chosen chump.
I would sign her petition if I still lived in Indiana.
Politico carrying the bucket for the Dem Party. typical
Looks like red state is in on the fun too.
Is she 3 feet tall or those pictures on the wall hung really high?
I’d rather have some old gray-haired, white fart run on the Dem ballot; I think he would be easier to defeat. This woman could be a “breath of fresh air” and win this thing, with the “ANTI-INCUMBENT” sentiment we have in the nation this election year.
Then, being a novice, once she got to Washington, the Democrats would accost her and she’d be in step with them in no time.
If someone can tell me how to sign her petition, I'll gladly help her cause.
LOL...you are very observant. (Something I’m not.) She could be sitting in a chair, or standing, a step or two down, on a stairway.
Coats is still well liked in the state and would CRUSH here.
Coats IS NOT the presumed NOMINEE! May I remind you..
Well, Bayh was a mental midget, so there is that similarity.
O.K. But, I just remember how Debra Medina came out of nowhere and was headed for a possible run-off with Gov. Rick Perry in Texas; until she derailed her campaign in her interview with Glenn Beck a few days ago.
I think Coats would be a fine choice, but Hostettler would also be good, and I am open to any other true conservative considering the race as well.
