Newspapers' poll: Perry has comfortable lead as voting starts [TxGov]
American Statesman ^ | Feb. 13, 2010 | Jason Embry and Corrie MacLaggan

Posted on 02/14/2010 6:24:43 AM PST by deport

Gov. Rick Perry heads into the start of early voting Tuesday with a comfortable lead over his two Republican primary challengers, but he could be in for a tough November fight against the Democratic nominee, a poll commissioned by the Austin American-Statesman and other Texas newspapers shows.

Perry has the support of 45 percent of likely Republican primary voters, while 29 percent back U.S. Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison and 17 percent support Wharton activist Debra Medina. Just 8 percent are undecided.

The telephone survey was conducted Feb. 2-10, before Medina said important questions had been raised about whether the U.S. government aided in the Sept. 11 attacks on the World Trade Center. Medina later said she has never believed the government was involved, but her initial remarks could weaken her momentum.

In fact, Medina's comments could allow Perry to win more than 50 percent of the vote in the March 2 primary and avoid a runoff, said pollster Mickey Blum of Blum & Weprin Associates, which conducted the survey.

Usually, incumbents don't build support in the final weeks of an election, Blum said. But Perry could break the 50 percent threshold if Medina's comments cause her supporters to break toward Perry or stay home.

Unfortunately you really don’t care.

For example. Are there any other major skyscrapers that you can point to that have "pancaked" due to the weight of the floors above after having had planes flown into them?

Read about the design.

This truss design was guaranteed to fail precisely because of the floors that were destroyed. The towers were unique in that the load bearing was carried on the outer walls. The load-bearing steel columns are called Vierendeel trusses. Many of these were destroyed during the initial impact. The resulting fires contributed to failure of central column trusses to the load bearing outer column. You can read more about it here.

Eventually, the loss of strength and stiffness of the materials resulting from the fire, combined with the initial impact damage, would have caused a failure of the truss system supporting a floor, or the remaining perimeter columns, or even the internal core, or some combination. Failure of the flooring system would have subsequently allowed the perimeter columns to buckle outwards. Regardless of which of these possibilities actually occurred, it would have resulted in the complete collapse of at least one complete storey at the level of impact.

Once one storey collapsed all floors above would have begun to fall. The huge mass of falling structure would gain momentum, crushing the structurally intact floors below, resulting in catastrophic failure of the entire structure. While the columns at say level 50 were designed to carry the static load of 50 floors above, once one floor collapsed and the floors above started to fall, the dynamic load of 50 storeys above is very much greater, and the columns at each level were almost instantly destroyed as the huge upper mass fell to the ground.

For example. Are there any other major skyscrapers that you can point to that have "pancaked" due to the weight of the floors above after having had planes flown into them?

How about posting where a fully fueled airliner crashed into a high rise building for comparison? Rather than throwing out strawman arguments, how about something we can discuss from an engineering perspective?

And really... who sent those that piloted the planes into the towers?

Bin Laden admitted it on video.

The voices of the hijackers talking to the crews or anyone else?

These were on the flight recorders. Some of them released to the public.

Let me guess... [Cut the strawman bullshit and ad hominem attacks]...Messiah?

You are a "truther". Do you even possess the beginnings of a clue as to how the buildings were constructed? Why they fell? Please don't answer demolition. Your idiot certifiables are already evident.

So the answer to my question is no. You do not have any examples you can point to do you? And you do believe in Evolution? You do believe in global warming and socialism is a good thing right? I mean according to you computer models prove everything don't they? I'll bet you believe the polar bears are drowning too huh? I mean we all saw those photo shopped pictures of those poor little bears floating on a teeny, tiny little iceberg to their deaths now didn't we?

Are you also against the death penalty? And with the exception of the death penalty question does any of this have anything to do with a person exercising the office of governor of the state of Texas?

I told you... If you cannot provide empirical evidence (NOT HEARSAY OR THEORY), to support your beliefs then don't respond to me again. What part of that do you not understand?

What's more, I'm voting for Medina in the primaries. If she doesn't win I'll be voting for my self by writing in my name. I will not vote for another RINO and I don't care how much they buy into the politically correct propaganda you cherish.

Now good night.

...I’m simply asking you to support your inflammatory position. And this after 8 1/2 years...

What's sad is after 8 1/2 years you still don't have any of the answers to any of the questions being posed yet you are walking lockstep with those that wish to keep the Black Boxes and other information away from us. Why is that? I suppose you've seen evidence that Obama is a US Citizen as well haven't you?

Why are you so afraid to let people admit when they are ignorant about something? Does it make you feel superior to them when you just know that you know that what you know about what they think must be a fact or is their some other motivation behind your unskilled methods of clairvoyance that gets you off? And please... explain how my not knowing answers to certain questions is "inflammatory?" Whats more, how does an arrogant jerk get off calling someone else comments inflammatory? You've set out to do everything but attack my mother because I'm not a mindless lemming. Talk about inflammatory. Will attacks on my mother be the next thing you use to troll for the answers from me you think I should be giving?

I told you before, you're not smart enough. Deal with it and leave me alone.

Some of the name calling you’ve done:
“brainwashed lemming”
“misguided manipulator hell bent on forcing people to think your way”
“believe all the BS you do”
“an arrogant jerk”
“mindless lemming”
“you’re not smart enough”

Anti - you’re soo convincing, so persuasive...:)

Can’t you see that you’re like Obama - only you’re still trying to make a decision after 8 1/2 years, vs. 6 months (Afghanistan). No it’s not sad that I don’t question that planes hit the buildings, that 4 boxes meant to withstand intense heat and impact were not meant to be crushed under 1 Billion pounds of building (do you suppose they tested that ever before - Myth Busters should test that in a demolition of a building), and that 20 muzzie terrorist murderers mounted a coordinated attack based on tons of ancillary and video evidence.

It’s also not sad to conclude that W, who owned a baseball team and loves his wife would not carry out the worst government crime in US history - something your sad uncertainty is allowing for. Or bring that on Cheney, or Rumsfeld or who, the Israeli Mossad? So how did the Israeli Mossad carry this off? Were the planes empty? And people got those phone calls from Flight 93 - what was that about - was an Israeli operative in the front there - and then suddenly the USAF shot down that plane - or were muzzies in front there, and the USAF shot down that plane - or did Flight 93 crash on its own, over field in PA, strewn out?

Based on all the evidence from all the terrorist flights, that’s what I choose to think.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/9/11_conspiracy_theories
“According to the magazine Skeptic, “[this] claim rests largely on unsupported assertions that the main body of the engine and other large parts of the plane turned up miles from the main wreckage site, too far away to have resulted from an ordinary crash. This is incorrect, because the engine was found only 300 yards from the main crash site, and its location was consistent with the direction in which the plane had been traveling.”[83] Michael K. Hynes, an airline accident expert who investigated the crash of TWA Flight 800 in 1996, says that, at very high velocities of 500 mph or more, it would only take a few seconds to move or tumble across the ground for 300 yards.[76][83]

Reports of wreckage discovered at Indian Lake by local residents are accurate. CNN reported that investigators found debris from the crash at least eight miles away from the crash site, including in New Baltimore.[84] However, according to CNN, this debris was all very light material that the wind would have easily blown away, and a Pittsburgh Post-Gazette article from September 14, 2001 describes the material as “mostly papers”, “strands of charred insulation”, and an “endorsed paycheck”. The same article quotes FBI agent Bill Crowley that, “Lighter, smaller debris probably shot into the air on the heat of a fireball that witnesses said shot several hundred feet into the air after the jetliner crashed. Then, it probably rode a wind that was blowing southeast at about 9 m.p.h.”[85] Also, the distance between the crash site and Indian Lake was misreported in some accounts. According to the BBC, “In a straight line, Indian Lake is just over a mile from the crash site. The road between the two locations takes a roundabout route of 6.9 miles — accounting for the erroneous reports.”

By the way, are you and Debra Medina, LIHOP or MIHOP conspiracists?

Wow... You are obsessed with forcing people that don't agree with you into submission aren't you SB? Since when is telling the "TRUTH" a bad think? I don't know who was behind the 9/11 attacks and if you say that you do you are a liar. Just because you saw a few planes fly into buildings in no way makes you an expert in what went on behind the scenes. Your problem is you have no problems believing whatever your fearless leaders tell you to believe as evidenced by your continued attempts to force me into voting for Perry. I must say that you're whining because of me exposing you for the fraud you are is amazing. How may times have you called me a "truther" as if believing the truth or wanting to know for a fact what the truth is is a bad thing? Shame on you for wanting people to blindly jump on board with you in believing what is without doubt another fraud being played on the American people. A fraud that in my opinion is on par with the whole Man-Made Global Warming fiasco that is just now, decades after it's inception, coming to light.

You do believe the earth is warming don't you?

Listen. I've been nice to you. If my general comments have hit too close to home and the shoe fits then wear it but for me... I am through trying to reason with a bully. You wouldn't try to pull this crap on me in person I can assure you that. And that too is the "TRUTH!"

Now piss off. I'm still voting for Medina.

She spoke out against “Republicans?” How dare she? Shame on her. I KNOW that I’m voting for her now. Is she registered as a “libertarian” or is that just what you all are calling her because she is not a RINO? I know that Conservatives are hated in both wings (Demoncrap and Republican) of the communist/socialist/liberal party. My question is is she really a “Conservative” as she says? My research does not expose her as anything but a Conservative. Do you all have anything else that would suggest otherwise? She thinks for herself. She is pro-life, pro-second Amendment, pro-business, pro-death penalty, pro-Texas.... Aside from not walking in lockstep with the RINO Steele what has she done wrong?

you ask....”what has she done wrong?”....

Well I’m certain you’ve read the many Medina threads which have spelled that out pretty clearly. Asking this question does say that no matter what facts are presented to you you are set to vote for her anyway...so why keep asking and debating at this juncture. The decision is cerainly yours as is your vote...seems you’ve decided from your posts. Perhaps enough said and on to others who may be open to the facts.

Thing is you and I are not having a "discussion." You Perry supporters are unwilling to answer my questions as you continue to try to put words not only into my mouth but into Medina's. Saying I don't know is not a concrete answer one way or another. You Perry supporters don't seem to understand this or are choosing to use whatever influence you can to sling mud at someone that is a viable candidate. As for being "open to the facts." WTH? That's what I have been asking for... FACTS. Do you have the black boxes? Do you have a recording or a video of Medina saying "Yes", I believe the 9/11 commission's report without question or "No", I think the government is lying to us. Either would be a "FACT (something that is supported by empirical evidence.)"
None of you have produced a single "FACT". All you've produced is what we all already know. Three planes were flown into three buildings of which three buildings ultimately collapsed with a fourth being seriously damaged do to in large part the planes smashing into them. The evidence supports this hence making these reports true. What you have not done is produce concrete, empirical "EVIDENCE" as to who was behind the attacks. In the same way we were sold a bill of goods by the environmentalist moonbats we could quite possibly be being sold a bill of goods by our government.

You'll have to forgive me if I don't buy into all the rhetoric when it comes to signing off on the "official version" of what went down on 9/11. I do like the truth and I do seek the truth. I find it sad that so many of you think that the word "Truth" is a bad word.

Woe unto them that call evil good, and good evil; that put darkness for light, and light for darkness; that put bitter for sweet, and sweet for bitter! (Isaiah 5:21)
You all want our nation's collapse? Keep supporting candidates like Perry, McCain, Gingrich, Steele, etc...... RINOS are killing our country.

JMHO

“You are obsessed”

So far, you’ve written back every time I’ve written. Pot, kettle, black. ‘sides, I’ve posted articles and information. What the heck have you posted in defense of your acriminous vote of no confidence (at best), and worst possible criminality (at worst) of the 7 1/2 month old Bush admin?

“Since when is telling the “TRUTH” a bad think?”

How is it possible that you’re telling the truth when you admit you don’t know the truth? All I’m saying is that after 8 1/2 years, I’ve reached what I think is a reasonable conclusion that allows me to make subsequent decisions (what leaders to support, for instance).

“Your problem is you have no problems believing whatever your fearless leaders tell you to believe as evidenced by your continued attempts to force me into voting for Perry.”

Your problem is that you have no problem entertaining conspiracies that indict the US government in the worst crime in its history, even after 8 1/2 years and many reasonable evidences to the contrary.

“exposing you for the fraud you are”

You’ve done nothing of the sort. Since you admit you don’t know the truth, how can you seriously conclude that I’m a fraud? According to your own admission, either of us could be moreso representing the truth (as you don’t know what the truth is.) Therefore, there is no sense to which you can rightly accuse me of being fraudulent, when our object is to get at the truth.

I certainly don’t consider you a fraud. I’m sure you’re quite sincere, and probably a generally decent person. Perhaps I’ve been too adament and provoked you - and for that I apologize.

“Shame on you for wanting people to blindly jump on board with you”

Yes, I’ve been adament. But I don’t ever expect people to think and believe what I do, blindly. You’re just wrong there in your conclusion Anti.

“You do believe the earth is warming don’t you?”
The earth warms and cools in large secular cycles...AGW is a fraud.

“I am through trying to reason with a bully. You wouldn’t try to pull this crap on me in person I can assure you that. And that too is the “TRUTH!”

Now piss off.”

Wow, who’s ‘forcing’ whom? Who’s bullying whom? Get real Anti - if you can’t support your ideas with evidence, rather than threatening someone, then what have you got?

Medina is NOT representative of the Tea Party movement. She USED them- latched herself on to them. She’s a hard core Libertarian who has realized that the Libertarian Party will never win anything and that the only possible way to get herself into office is to do what Ron Paul did and wrap herself in the Republican cloak in hopes that it will fool enough of the voters enough of the time.

Rick Perry does not think 9/11 was an inside job.

That's what he *wants* you to think...

Did you know that no Perry staffers or relatives were killed on 9/11?

How do you explain that?
