Newspapers' poll: Perry has comfortable lead as voting starts [TxGov]

Gov. Rick Perry heads into the start of early voting Tuesday with a comfortable lead over his two Republican primary challengers, but he could be in for a tough November fight against the Democratic nominee, a poll commissioned by the Austin American-Statesman and other Texas newspapers shows.

Perry has the support of 45 percent of likely Republican primary voters, while 29 percent back U.S. Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison and 17 percent support Wharton activist Debra Medina. Just 8 percent are undecided.

The telephone survey was conducted Feb. 2-10, before Medina said important questions had been raised about whether the U.S. government aided in the Sept. 11 attacks on the World Trade Center. Medina later said she has never believed the government was involved, but her initial remarks could weaken her momentum.

In fact, Medina's comments could allow Perry to win more than 50 percent of the vote in the March 2 primary and avoid a runoff, said pollster Mickey Blum of Blum & Weprin Associates, which conducted the survey.

Usually, incumbents don't build support in the final weeks of an election, Blum said. But Perry could break the 50 percent threshold if Medina's comments cause her supporters to break toward Perry or stay home.

In her news conference Friday, it is clear Medina was trying to clean up the mess. But in our interview with her hours AFTER the Beck radio show, she repeated there are still questions that need to be answered.

On Friday, she told reporters she is curious why no New York City police officers died in the towers when so many firefighters did.

!!!!!

That's not true, however, as 60 police officers were killed.

“Since you know everything yourself maybe you can produce the black boxes eh?”

I wanna know if you think our government mass murdered its citizens...

Where the black boxes are is one thing - are you saying the planes flown by the muzzie terrorists didn’t fly into the buildings - despite what thousands saw happen and all the ancillary evidence about the terrorists??

You accuse us of talking without evidence...

Wow!

"What black boxes?"

Not to change topics here but a similar analogy would be "what evidence do you have of man made global warming?"

Tell us deport... Do you believe in man-made global warming? Are you one of the "Green Police"?

It's easier to follow than to think for yourself is it?

Nuff said!

Medina is deadwood or driftwood floating down the river to election day. She never really had a chance but made it interesting or livened up the race a bit. Her protege Paul got just over 66,000 votes out of over 1.3 million cast in 08 in the Texas GOP primary for president. IMO, Medina won’t do any better and most likely worse. Hutchison has taken a large fall from where she was a year ago and that is part of the anti DC seniment.

In the end this race is over and we’ll know the final outcome in 17 days. In person early voting begins this Tues, Feb. 16. So ballots will be cast and those that are paying attention to the daily events will have Medina’s ‘truther’ response front and center on their radar screen. JMO and I maybe all wrong but we’ll know very shortly.

Nuff said alright. You’re holding yourself out that the Bush admin mass murdered its citizens...You’re the one that needs to prove that Whopper. Can you please just clearly tell us what you think happened on 9/11?

Or do you just want to hold out the conspiracy - ala JFK second shooter times 3000? Is that the end game here?(hmmm...what discussion board are we on? Exit left Van Jones...Anti-One and apparently Medina are right behind ya!)

Good reminder but it wasn’t Bill Clements. It was Clayton Williams that made that reference in a joke around a campfire with a bunch of reporters in tow. Fool had the governorship won until that and then Ma Richards wiped the floor with him. It was said the best thing they could have done with him was to lock him up and not let him out in public until after the election. He proved them correct.

To: Extremely Extreme Extremist

As I said, I think that the likeliest explanation is not that she’s a Truther but is so beholden to Truthers and other Paulite kooks and the money they send to her campaign that she didn’t dare contradict their “9-11 was an inside job” delusions on the Glenn Beck radio show.

I know that a lot of Tea Partiers supported Paul’s presidential candidacy (and perhaps most early Tea Partiers were Paul supporters, but that certainly is not the case for the overwhelming majority of current Tea Partiers), and I also know that many good, patriotic conservatives supported Paul in 2008 (full disclosure: I was not one of them, driven away by Paul’s isolationism, more extreme libertarianism and kookier views, and I supported Fred Thompson). That being said, some people support Ron Paul not because if his support for tax cuts and for limited government, but for his positions well outside of the conservative mainstream (including catering to Truthers), and I refer to such non-conservative Paul fanatics as Paulites. I think that conservatives have to be very careful before endorsing a Paulite, because when you least expect it he or she will come out against stopping Islamist fanatics from developing nuclear weapons or something and then you’ll end up with a Democrat governor and you won’t get the tax cuts that attracted you to the Paulite in the first place,

Just one man’s opinion.

lease state your implications clearly. Are you saying that the government murdered our citizens,

No. I am not saying that but it wouldn't be the first time a government murdered it's own citizens to achieve a political goal. Ever heard of the Tiananmen Square Massacre?

..." and will you hold a sign that says, “Mulsims didn’t do it?”"

No. Will you hold up a sign that says our government didn't aide and abed them? And if so what evidence to you have to the contrary?

"As to the black boxes, if the government whisked those away, and didn’t let us hear what was on there, as we sometimes do in airplane crashes, that would be unusual, even highly unusual but certainly no proof that the US government was complicit or carried out 9/11 for its own untoward ends."

Nor would it say is wasn't hence the "I don't know." The thing is the government says that, for the first time in history, the black boxes were not recovered. They're lying. And if lying about that then what else are they lying about? I have several friends that were on ground zero cleaning up the mess. NOTHING escaped their eyes. They were all looking for anything they could to not only incriminate the attackers but to also identify the victims. The odds of FOUR black boxes disappearing when we have never even lost one is near impossible.

That said SeattleBruce, not everyone is obsessed with 9/11. Some people have moved on with their lives and have not devoted a great deal of time fretting over something they can do nothing about. I suspect Medina is one of those people but because she has drawn no conclusion at all and because she won't sell out her principles to take a stand on something she knows nothing about you all want to accuse her of being some sort of conspiracy nut. Well shame on you. I suspect you are a Perry plant working the forums to get your RINO elected while I am simply here looking at things objectively and wishing to see all the evidence.
I have an inquiring mind if you will. I like to be educated and I believe the only real education comes once ALL EVIDENCE available is considered. I am also a believer that pleading the fifth is not an admission of guilt or that saying I don't know means I know. Too bad you do. Jumping to uninformed conclusions is nothing short of gossip and I will not partake in that.

Heading off topic to the orginal Medina support you were espousing earlier aren’t you?

Beck: Do You Believe....

Medina: I don’t know.

Beck: Would you disavow them or allow them to continue to advise you....

Medina: I don’t know....

Her claim that Glenn Beck sand-bagged her just isn’t true, since the interview I linked took place AFTER her interview with Beck.

Seems to me that in order to still support her, people would either have to be Truthers or they’d have to do a whole lot of twisting to justify voting for Ron Paul in a skirt.
