Pennsylvania Public Radio's Scott Detrow reports from a conservative event in Harrisburg:
Wurzelbacher touched on several different points during his speech, and many of them were surprising. He said he doesnt support Sarah Palin anymore. Why? Because shes backing John McCains re-election effort. John McCain is no public servant, he told the room, calling the 2008 Republican nominee a career politician.
I pointed out hed just be plain old Sam Wurzelbacher of Ohio Joe the Plumber wouldnt exist without McCain. His response was blunt. I dont owe him s. He really screwed my life up, is how I look at it.
Wurzelbacher said, McCain was trying to use me. I happened to be the face of middle Americans. It was a ploy.
My memory is hazy, but I think the state-run media used the same Alinsky tactics on Joe that they used on Palin (Pick the target. Freeze it. Personlize it. Polarize it). Someone discovered that Joe did not have a license, and therefore was not a "plumber" (implying that he was falsifying his credentials). His whole life was dug into. If I recall correctly, he lost business income due to the media colonoscopy.
The difference of course is that Palin is a politician and Joe is not. While Sarah had the experience to know how to deal with political enemies, Joe did not. He first tried riding the wave (with the unhelpful, self-serving assistance of McCain), then ran off the tracks - something I think could easily have happened to lots of people, including myself.
If, looking back, Joe is a little bitter, I can't say I blame him.
Exactly right, Juan was nowhere around when Joe the Plumber became a character in the 2008 campaign. Juan just decided to use Joe for his own purposes and he did. And Juan is also using Sarah for his own purposes. Just don't recall Juan defending Sarah during the months his former campaign staff was trashing her. But he suddenly found a use for her when it became apparent late in 2009 that JD was very likely to challenge him.
The weasel is just being the weasel that he is.
My apolgies to my High School English teacher, for mixing my metaphors... :-)
Sorry.....I should just lie down and become the next pod in “Invasion of the Body Snatchers” ;-)
Joe needs to man up and get on with his life
I get blasted here every time I express my disgust for Palin support McCain.
Yep!
Joe may not inspire a lot of faith but even a blind pig will root up an acorn now and again.
In this case, Joe is correct.
Sarah may have agreed to support Meghan's dad out of some misguided feeling of loyalty or obligation, but it is a HUGE tactical mistake and time will show that it damages her credibility.
.
Here, 15 minutes became a real shot.
Instant branding and recognition, Joe The Plumber.
Unfortunately he has shown himself to be less than thoughful.
I realize this is media motivation for his extended spotlight,
hey Joe, say some more stupid stuff for the camera!
But the guy was given repeated chance to be heard, to have influence.
If I get into that situation I would not speak off the cuff, not answer any question I have not already considered.
Smiling and gently shaking one’s head side to side, followed by a laugh is fine, for the stupid or baited question.
Answer not just in soundbytes, but simple, common sense observations.
Responding to a question with a question works.
What do you think of national health care?
Ever been to the registry of Motor Vehicles?
Palin supporting McCain is a mistake, but Palin can minimize the damage she takes. First, it's understandable, McCain named her his VP candidate. Second, there's their personal relationship. Third, it how Palin campaigns in Arizona. She'll need to focus on the issues and not puff up McCain outside of his heroism as a POW. In other words, damn McCain with faint praise.
Some here who worshipped Joe now disavow him because he is showing up McCain who virtually nobody here likes. That line of reasoning is pretty hard to follow. McCain was and is a two bit pol who used Joe for all he could get out of him. Is it because Joe said something bad about Palin? Joe is right about NcCain and he is right that Palin should not be supportung McCain.
I notice that Sarah Palin has been very quiet of late where McCain is concerned. I hope she has done all the endorsing of the old fraud that she will do.
Sounds like ol’ Joe is as big a kneejerk reactionary as some other “conservatives”.
He is not burning any bridges. In fact he may be building a few.
Yep. McCain was in campaign mode months ago. He was locking up endorsements knowing full well that he was very vulnerable in AZ. McCain was the only top tier candidate of either party in 2008 that could not win his/her home state primary with 50% or more of the vote.
Really?
First, Joe (or anybody else, for that matter) , if you have any questions or concerns or frothing anger or whatever about the gov endorsing John McCain...read her book. If you haven’t got it, go get it. If you already have it, read it. If you’ve already read it, read it again until you understand it. She obviously likes and respects him, whether or not she agrees with him on everything. And he did give her her big break on the national political scene. So her supporting McCain, rather than publicly humiliating him, should really not have been much of a surprise.
Second, I have severe problems with some of the things John McCain has done and said...but not a public servant? Really? What did you do in the war, Joey?
Third, John McCain didn’t screw up your life. The press and certain government idiots screwed up your life. Could you have avoided that? I suppose you could have kept your mouth shut like a good little boy when The Bronze Messiah came to your neighborhood and started asking for you and your neighbors’ opinions, the way those folks probably would have preferred you to do. But in America, you shouldn’t have to worry about that. But again, there are things the Maverick has done or said that he needs to answer for. Messing up your life is not one of them.
Joe the Plumber was created by the media. McCain asked him for his presence at rallies. If he despised McCain so much, Joe should have said NO.
I get blasted here every time I express my disgust for Palin supporting McCain. (Typo corrected)
>> Without McCain Joe the Plumber would just ...
Nonsense.
