You obviously weren’t watching when the USA beat the Russians in the “Miracle on Ice” at Lake Placid.
That was the next best thing to beating the Ruskies on the battlefield. Thirty years later I remember it like it was yesterday.
Seriously - ask anyone over the age of 35 (and plenty of people younger) what the greatest moment in Winter Olympics history was, and the answer will be the Miracle. Hell, you’ll get usually the same answer if you ask about the greatest moment in the last 50 years of sports.
Also, it included the greatest call in sports history, made by none other than the host for NBC’s daytime 2010 Olympics coverage, Al Michaels. Maybe they ought to have him call the game, seeing as how it is one day before the 30th anniversary of the Miracle.
