A University of Alabama professor accused of fatally shooting three colleagues at a faculty meeting this week shot her younger brother dead at their home in the Boston suburbs more than 20 years ago, but records of it are missing, police said Saturday.
Amy Bishop shot her brother in the chest in 1986, Braintree police Chief Paul Frazier said at a news conference. She fired at least three shots, hitting her brother once and hitting her bedroom wall, before police took her into custody at gunpoint, he said.
Before Bishop could be booked, the police chief back then told officers to release her to her mother, Frazier said.
The shooting of the brother, Seth Bishop, was logged as an accident, but detailed records of the shooting have disappeared, he said.
"The report's gone, removed from the files," he said.
He said people who worked for the police department then remember the shooting and he planned to meet with the district attorney over the possibility of launching a criminal investigation into the report's disappearance.

Be sure your sins will find you out.
No tenure for her.
Title should say “fired three shots [or more].” She hit her brother but once, which was enough to kill him.
she is looking for an injection... bring her to texas we can fix that..
Dukakis’ fault.
Nice work, Braintree PD.
This is ridiculous. Shooting someone in the chest three times is an “accident”? If Bishop had been jailed she would not have killed again in Alabama.
I wonder what the back story here is. We may never know.
Reminds me of the movie, Halloween.
Sounds like her mother spun the story for her.
Somebody in Boston should also be arrested for letting this killer go free.
From Tenure Track to Execution Track.
it will come out ... the left is scrambling .. so is the university .. they know the lawsuits for hiring such an unstable person.. kinda like Waco..Who was watching the gates..
Sounds more like she and the chief had something going.
Maybe the brother needed killing.
The story as told earlier said that she was asking how the shotgun worked when she accidentally shot her younger brother in the stomach.
There was nothing in that earlier story about three shots.
There was some speculation that she connived with her mother, who was present, to pretend it was an accident. Now it looks as if they connived with the chief of police.
This woman now has three murder charges against her, anyway. But I think someone had better find out what in hell was up with that chief of police, who seems to have connived at covering up a murder.
This is unbelievable! She killed her brother as an 18 year-old and wasn’t even booked? The article says the local police chief sent her home and wrote it up as an accident (even though she fired THREE times) and (presumably) made sure all record of the incident disappeared.
I did not even know such a thing was possible.
No soup either.
He was apparently much more gifted than she was (he was a brilliant violinist as well as gifted in the sciences) and they had had some conflict over this.
That said, however, it’s possible that her killing her brother was an accident. Many people handling a gun for the first time don’t realize how dangerous it is and the fact that you should never ever point it at anyone.
