PROVIDENCE, R.I. — The mayor of Providence, R.I., and a former state Democratic Party official are running for Patrick Kennedy's U.S. House seat.

Kennedy announced this week that he would not seek a ninth term.

Providence Mayor David Cicilline (sis-uh-LEEN'-ee) says he's in the race. In 2002, the 48-year-old attorney became the first openly gay man elected mayor of Providence. He promised to clean up city government after a City Hall corruption scandal.

Why the need to tell us he’s GAY? Why don’t the promoters of the GAY AGENDA quit this “first openly gay” crap?

” He promised to clean up city government after a City Hall corruption scandal.” The GOP should run clips from the Showtime series “The Brotherhood” which I’m told was amazingly close to real life.

In any event does this guy believe , I mean really believe he will be seen as an acceptable replacement for Happy Hour Patty?

How about Michael Caffey? He's got horsepower and already located in Providence.

Correction: It’s the People’s Seat, which is temporarily occupied by a Kennedy.

On his worst day in office, Buddy Cianci did a much better job of actually running Providence. Cicceline is not only openly gay, he's openly incompetent. Even more inept are the people he brought in with him

At least when Buddy was running the show, public safety was a lot better. When this gay incompetent and his troupe of queers and Affirmative Action Ani took over, it encouraged the worst elements in the city to go crazy.

This town is full of Rhode Island urbanites who combine all the intelligence of Massholes with the violent streak of the worst gangstas in the 'hood. Buddy knew how to keep'em down, which they need.

As far as Rhode Island goes, getting this obnoxious, incompetent queer out of town would be a good move for them, even if they were sending him to DC. Could hardly be worse than the dipsomaniac Kennedy. Besides, he might even lose the frickin'election!

Ma, never trust ""Reform Candidates."

The real people of Providence all kinda look like bookies and pool parlor sharks to me ... and that's what they need to keep'em in some kind of line.

The theory that Mayorette Dave the Queer and his oh-so-politically-correct gay pals would somehow be "more honest" than Buddy and the Gang is a logically shaky proposition.

If he wins his party’s nomination, it should help John Loughlin’s candidacy.

It’s no surprise that Cicilline is running, and I agree that it should help Loughlin because of Cicilline’s controversial nature (which won’t sell outside of Providence, only half of which is in the district). The one thing that worries me about Cicilline running is that it may spur Buddy Cianci to run as an independent.

My 2 cents: Whether Cicilline is light in the loafers is almost irrelevant. As I’ve posted before, I go to Providene/RI several times a month and here’s the real point about Cicilline: What has he done as mayor? NOTHING!

Providence has become increasingly dirtier, businesses have closed, and buildings stand empty since he took aver as mayor.

Cicilline coasted on all the progress that Buddy made, period. Well, that magic carpet ride’s been done for a while.
