Subtitle: DHS Is Monitoring Social Media and Web Sites for Terror and Disaster Info
As the winter Olympics begin, the Department of Homeland Security has disclosed that it will be monitoring the comments and posts on websites and social media like Twitter for information on possible terror threats. Among the sites listed in a privacy impact statement filed Friday afternoon by DHS are the Drudge Report, the Huffington Post, Twitter, Google and this web site, the Blotter. The National Operations Center of DHS will watch the web for information, according to the statement, to "provide situational awareness" in the event of natural disaster, an "act of terrorism, or other manmade disaster."
"The Olympics are a potential target for such events," said the statement. The statement did not list all web sites and social media that the NOC will monitor, but provided 31 examples, many of them, like the Blotter, sites that cover breaking news, security, or terror.

VOX is all I do as well but the wife and all of the kids.. Hoo-Boy Twitter, Text, Facebook all that junk. The only reason I even have a cell is the Wife insisted I have one. Dang Electronic Leash.
ROFL!!!
I know my two 20 something nieces ONLY communicate with FB or Texting. They don’t even answer voice calls or email any more!
(so far I have refused to pay the extra it costs to have unlimited texting on my cell but don’t know how long that will last).
By the way - thanks for all your posts on our wonderful military heroes and goings on. I don’t post on those threads but enjoy them anyway. If all America could have seen your posts through the years....well....a lot of eyes would be opened to the heroes who are out there every day and all that’s been going on in that realm.
So thanks for that service.
Yeah.. I know.. my youngest (25) drives me nuts with the TXT’g.
My pleasure.
The people in this administration and their media serfs are frightened. They know they are bungled and botched and that they should not be in positions of authority.
Yep. Exactly.
Hey - interrupting this thread to post a link to Carrie Underwood’s National Anthem at the Superbowl.
I didn’t see it - but found it today - and it’s brought tears!
Watch closely and you’ll see a big tough NFL football player having the same reaction.
I hope our Troops got to see/hear this!

OH - that’s interesting. So far no goofiness here - just FR going down at critical moments....but that’s why we have alternative sites.
I feel so much safer knowing the bloated bureaucracy has enough "intelligence" experts to sit around and read "Tweets". I remember back when complicated things like traffic analysis and cryptography were necessary elements of security services, but I guess everything is dumbed down these days.
All your TWEETS are belong to us.
So now instead of physically protecting and looking for terrorists, DHS will now be doing what we all are doing without any formal training. Reading comments online.
I demand we be paid when we lurk.
