Mortimer B. Zuckerman, the real estate tycoon and publisher of The Daily News, is considering a bid for the Senate seat now held by Kirsten E. Gillibrand, according to two people told of the discussions.
Mr. Zuckerman regards Ms. Gillibrand as vulnerable to a challenge and is hoping that, at a time of economic tumult and political unrest, his background as an outsider to government, and his record as a business executive, will appeal to the states electorate, these people said.

The only grown-up on the scene is Paul Volcker. It is sad that you have to be 80 years old to qualify anymore.
Spot on. Also this: his concerns and priorities and tendencies seem to me to be identical to those of Joe Lieberman. It seems impossible for a jet-set Jewish man NOT to be a social liberal. However, for both men, their most identifying political characteristcs are wrapped up in security for the US and Israel, and the ways that those two concerns go hand-in-hand. To me, that is the post 9/11 reality that set in on the likes of Dennis Miller, Ron Silver and Ed Koch (just to name a few). I find Zuck quite acceptable in the role of Senator from NY, in the (R) caucus.
