WHISTLER, British Columbia (AP)A mens Olympic luger from Georgia crashed during training Friday and is receiving emergency treatment.
Officials said Nodar Kumaritashvili lost control of his sled, went over the wall of the track and appeared to hit a steel pole near the finish line at the Whistler Sliding Center.

Nodar Kumaritashvili? Must be from down near Tifton.
To: Artemis Webb
The fact that they are doing CPR on him is very grim.

Steel poles near luge run corners are not a good idea.

Heard a report that he didn’t so much bounce off the pole as stop and slide down. Ouch.

I suspect he didn’t feel a thing, he was probably gone in an instant.

Woah. That’s really too bad. The luge has always looked a little frightening.

CBC reporting he was dead on arrival at Whistler Hospital. Saw the video and the crash photos... no way he would have survived that. Horrific video and tragic accident.

Very sad. The photo on the front page of Yahoo sports showing the rescue workers giving CPR is very disturbing. Lots of blood.
The course may be too fast to be safe. ...and how could they allow a pole to be close to any part of the course?
To: P8riot
Wow. Olympic disaster before the opening ceremonies.
Steel poles around the luge track. Hopefully this tragedy will inspire them to remove the metal spikes from the slalom run.

Once he got too high on the last curve, it was all over.
Whoever designed the course and its construction is guilty.
