This discouraged small-business man really nails it.

The really troublesome part of this is knowing that the Kool-aid drinkers in his cabal will decry this information as ‘hopelessly inaccurate’ or ‘simply wrong’. But, the inner circle, close to the anointed one, will know that it is the truth, and will work diligently to deny it and direct our attention elsewhere.

It’s time to take back the country.

He rambled and rambled but never said why he threw in the towel. Having been in 25 busunesses, it might be that the one he quit was no good from the start. He never really said. Mostly he was ranting.

The piece struck me as similar to Obama’s constant theme....Bush’s fault, blame someone else

A consumer society based on debt is unsustainable. It didn't work during the 20s and it won't work now. Basic economics.

Businessmen - get over it !!!!!!!!!!

Half of all busineesses were part of a bubble and it's going away for 20 years or more until debt is written down.

Government is trying to prevent asset price collapse and prevent debt writedowns it won't work !!!!!

No Mr. (so called) president, it's not because banks won't loan money.

It's because business owners are smarter than you and your ilk. We've been had before by shysters and can tell a con man when we see one.

The entire government is as courrupt as the mafia. The only difference is, we get nothing in return from the government, it's just take take take.

The only businessmen I know who take a loan to boost payroll are those with a government contract. Real businessmen (the majority of us) boost payroll gradually based on profits that are actually in our hands and a reasonable expectation of steady demand, or we used to. I, like many employers, no longer boost payroll at all. I helped some employees to go into business for themselves, watched others leave through attrition, and I’m not hiring as long as the socialist is in power. It’s fear of Obama/Pelosi, not fear of difficulty getting a loan that gets in the way. As for getting a loan, I can get one any time I want it. I just would never use a loan to hire employees on speculation.

I am coming at this from a slightly different angle.

My company needs sales reps, but because of the taxes and liability involved, we cannot afford to hire them as employees. We pay generous commissions, but cannot afford “benefits.”

We have track records from previous reps, and industry reports, showing that $50K in the first year is a reasonable expectation. It could be more. Additionally, there are many positives about being an independent contractor - scheduling flexibility, tax breaks, etc. - that should be inviting to the right person.

What I am seeing is a bunch of whiny, lazy middle aged men who find themselves unemployed from their $80K+ job and who truly expect to get another $80K+ job handed to them. They also expect fully paid health insurance, a matching retirement plan, and two weeks paid vacation in their first year. Their delusions are being aided by nearly two years of unemployment compensation which encourages them to keep looking for jobs that aren’t there and turning down opportunities that are available today.

While extension of “unemployment compensation” may be compassionate, it is not helping small business find employees.

Great article!

the Politicians on Planet Washington (The largest gas giant in the SS.) are running ahead full speed, in the fog, and the harbor is hopelessly lost.

Any business idea, from the first day it is hatched, is nothing more than a series of cost-benefit analyses that the idea-holder either acts on or passes on. Sometimes the first decision is to forget the idea. Sometimes the first decision is to move ahead and invest some cash.

Someone should take a nailgun and staple the above to the forehead of everyone currently attending college.

...when I see you hold job summits featuring environmentalists and unions, lawyers, and poverty pimps, I am even more thrilled to be out of the game. When I hear you fantasize that the only reason businesses won't hire is that they can't get a loan, my decision is further validated. And when you say that small business is clamoring for you to pass health care, I know that you have taken total leave of your senses.

Bumpety-bump.

That Obama would even make such a statement proves how completely ignorant he is. Obama is a moron and I am sick of hearing people say that he is brilliant.

Consider: Eighteen years ago, I was statistically in poverty, but I had dreams and plans. At the time, Reaganomics still set the economic tone, and a fired-up Newt Gingrich was forcing conservatism on the Clinton White House. There were actually politicians who praised business-owners and profits.
////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////

Great rant but actually eighteen years ago was February of 1992 and there was no Clinton White House until almost a year later in January of 1993. Newt Gingrich wasn’t forcing anything on the Clinton white house until after the elections in November of 1994. It is only fifteen years since that congress was seated.
