China on Friday demanded the White House cancel a meeting between US President Barack Obama and the Dalai Lama, warning that already strained ties between the two powers would be damaged further.
Beijing reacted angrily to the White House announcement that Obama would next week receive the exiled Tibetan spiritual leader, accused by China of seeking independence for his homeland.
"We firmly oppose the Dalai Lama visiting the United States and US leaders having contact with him," foreign ministry spokesman Ma Zhaoxu said.
"We urge the US side to fully understand the high sensitivity of Tibet-related issues, and honour its commitment to recognise Tibet as part of China and to oppose 'Tibet independence'," he added.
"China urges the US... to immediately call off the wrong decision of arranging for President Obama to meet with the Dalai Lama... to avoid any more damage to Sino-US relations."
The two sides have clashed in recent weeks over a 6.4-billion-dollar US arms deal for Taiwan, with China accusing the United States of violating the "code of conduct between nations" by selling weapons to what it sees as Chinese territory.
Beijing has also been irked by Washington's support for Google after the web giant announced it would no longer abide by China's strict Internet censorship rules and could quit the country over "highly sophisticated" cyberattacks.Related article: China says it has 'no dissidents'
The foreign ministry angrily denied any involvement in the hacking of Gmail accounts and accused Washington of "double standards" after Secretary of State Hillary Clinton lamented the restrictions on China's 384 million Internet users.
The White House invitation to the Dalai Lama, who will be in the United States for a week starting Wednesday, also comes as Obama tries to build an international consensus on sanctions against Iran.

I’d tell China to go to Hell......but knowing Jack Squat, he may well duck out of any such meeting with the Dalai Lama. A courageous trait by beta males and narcissists.....
The U.S. has no obligation to say that Tibet belongs to China and this statement is an admission that it is a separate nation.

We the people are given little choice on our candidates. Corporate and foreign lobbyist pump millions into the system to bring candidates to the forefront that favor them and their cause.
This has become a government of the lobby, for the lobby and by the lobby. Follow the money. Our political system is as corrupt as the day is long. Candidates spending obscene amounts of money to land a position that pays a tenth of what was spent to gain the seat. $$$$$$$$

I've worked for a fortune 500 company for over twenty years. I have seen the transition from capitalism to hyper-globalism. There is a difference in the two. We cannot compete with exploitation of labor, resources and environment.

Not a clue, but the American worker didn't ask for the deindustrialization of our homeland.
This is being done by greedy people that hold little or no allegiance to the country of their birth.
All for the bottom line.
America was once the most powerful economic and industrial entity on the planet. We since declined to the largest consumer/debtor nation with an economy in shambles, trillions in debt to foreigners, exports shrinking and the value of our dollar in jeapordy.
Now our great trading partner China is beginning to turn the screws on us militarily and economically.
We'd better right this ship or further troubled waters are before this nation.

I’m sure intelligence agencies from some countries have a lot of info on him. He’s also a narcissist and narcissists are easily influenced. That’s one big reason he got the Nobel Peace Prize....to influence him in ways that are detrimental to America.

I’ve never understood why China’s political leadership gets so bent out of shape when it comes to the Dali Lama. I mean c’mon, he travels around and folks fawn to get a photo with him. And that’s about it.
It’s also not nice to offend your chief cheap-junk customer.
Bummer probably will see the Dalai Lama, if only to exchange lefty pleasantries and “Can’t we all get along?”
The Chicoms are hypersensitive to anything that might serve as a nucleus of an alternative following in China. The Chicoms are intensely jealous of the people’s loyalty.
