Debra Medina implodes on Glenn Beck's show
Kansas City Star ^ | 2/11/10 | By Yael T. Abouhalkah, Kansas City Star Editorial Page columnist

Medina is facing off in a GOP primary with Gov. Rick Perry and U.S. Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison.

Medina's absurd comments to Beck about U.S. government involvement in 9/11 included this gem:

"I don’t have all of the evidence there, Glenn, so I’m not in a place, I have not been out publicly questioning that. I think some very good questions have been raised in that regard, there are some very good arguments and I think the American people have not seen all the evidence there, so I have not taken a position on that."

Perry and Hutchinson immediately ripped Medina for such ignorant comments

I’m kinda glad she gave the answer she did; “I prefer clarity to agreement”, as Dennis Prager says. If she had given the second answer, it would have been a lie.

I was trying to understand the consequences on tax deductions, both federal and state. Being unfamiliar with TX state tax deductions allowed, and not being able to deduct sales tax here in La., I made the mistake of extrapolating...you know, the “assume” mistake. Now I must go off and tend to my wounds, Achilles2000 tossed a dagger at me.

I agree, from reading the transcript it looks like a grilling. I don’t know much about Medina so I am not going to judge her, but I am only hoping that KBH doesn’t end up winning that election.

After that, no further interview was necessary.

Liked her answer.
Didn't like her answer.
Think she's a truther.
Don't think she's a truther.
Think it was a fair question.
Don't think it was a fair question.

It doesn't matter.

If you want to be a governor with tens of thousand of employees, millions of constituents and billions of dollars of budget to take care of you need to be able to handle the unexpected much better than she did. If she thought that she would be getting canned questions and she could get away with canned answers on Glenn Beck's program she has never listened to his show and did absolutely no preparation before the interview.

Not governor material.

In NC they have “revenue neutral” property taxes, which go up under the ever watchful Democratic machine’s eyes, tick tock. This is code word for “Democrat” and liberal, not conservative.

She is, after all, a Ron Paulette is she not? Should tell a person right there she is a truther because Ron Paul is.

“...and I hope they secede”

Careful, FRiend, you are about...oh...72 hours, or so, from being called a “whackjob” and “NUTTER.”

Trust me. If she wins a runoff over Charlie Crist in Cowboy Boots, she will win Texas. In other words, Glenn Beck’s Perry suckup will have failed. Of course, that remains to be seen how she “recovers”. But I’ll take her at her word that she isn’t a truther over anything Charlie Perry coughs up, unless someone shows me words where she says she is.

“And another one bites the dust. Fine with me. We don’t need this kind of nonsense out there representing Republicans.”

She is probably a better fit with Ron Paul, Libertarians, and other 3rd party types.

So cut the benefits. I don’t believe in a welfare state except for people who simply can’t work (and even then, they should be first referred to charitable organizations).

This question came out of the blue...

If someone asked me the same question out of the blue, I could answer it easily. Out of the blue is when you speak from the heart. And Debra did!

It was enough. I am in FL, so I don’t even have a vote and I know she’s toast.

Actually, my money has been well spent for the most part. Rubio looks like he’ll beat Charlie “Mitt” Perry in Florida, Gunny Pop Popaditch has an excellent chance of beating retard Filner in CA, JD Hayworth has an uphill battle but it is money well spent anyway. Michelle Bachmann stands to be reelected. And Jim DeMint’s PAC is doing good things. So my coping mechanism is to push for conservatives with effort and $$. How novel for you, eh?

She spoke from the heart first on Beck, then came back with the political answer. LOL!

Medina is not the sophisticated politician that Rick and Kay are. This question came out of the blue....nothing to do with the campaign. Of course she was taken back by the question. She thought she was going to be interviewed about her policies and what she would do if elected Governor. Beck was a jerk!!

You are being obtuse. She was asked a question that had a simple yes or no answer, she knew a yes would kill her but she didn't want to say an outright no so she waffled. This question my have surprised her but if she was really a conservative she would have said no flat out. She is now trying to back pedal.

Let me ask you this: If you were talking to a stranger on a bus and he asked you the same question would you be so surprised you waffled and made it sound as if you were hiding a "yes" answer behind the waffle? I bet you wouldn't but here you are trying to make excuses for someone who is running for public office and doesn't have the fortitude to answer such a simple question with a flat out no.

If she has no more expertise than that she doesn't need to be running for Governor. I know if I was living in Texas I would not vote for her, but that's just me.

I mean we know the government lies cheats steals etc... when it comes to everyday affairs. Most of us don’t trust the government to do a competent job at anything - but on this one issue - we have to accept whatever we are told?

That's exactly asking the question makes one a kook. The government is simply not competent to pull off an attack of that magnitude and have there be no evidence of it for 8 years, no witnesses, and no whistle-blowers.

The question Beck asked was simple. The correct answer was, “No, those people are kooks.” Period. You can’t dance around this. I don’t care how attractive she is otherwise, this is kooky.
