'Train poisoner' charged with 13 murders

A Russian man has been charged with killing 13 fellow train passengers by offering them tranquilliser-laced drinks before robbing them and leaving them to die, investigators said Wednesday.

The 23-year-old attacker targeted well-dressed, tipsy male travellers on commuter trains and at rail stations in Moscow and the surrounding region, Moscow transport investigators said in a statement.

He gave them drinks laced with a "huge dose of a strong tranquilliser" and waited for them to black out, then stole their money, mobile phones and bank cards before leaving them in an unconscious state, the statement said.

"Thirteen people died at the hands of the criminal and 12 more were hospitalised in a serious condition," it said. "Many have lost their memory."

The alleged poisoner was identified as Alexei Vygovsky, 23, a resident of the Moscow region who has a string of previous convictions.

Investigators said Vygovsky may have committed more attacks and appealed to members of the public to call a helpline.

Is offering drinks to strangers on trains customary in Russia?

If it is, it probably won’t be after this story.

Was Jamie Lee Curtis and David Copperfield anywhere around?

>> Odd wording.

“died at the hands of the criminal”

And I thought all criminals shared the same hand.

Jamie Lee and David Copperfield are not the same person ... unless Copperfield’s magic is way more than four dimensional.

Use a needle loaded with adrenaline and grain alcohol, pushed through to the brain case via the sinuses, each side of the frontal lobes, two cc each side. He can rake leaves and drag trash bags for the rest of his miserable life, never a danger again.

When I was in St. Petersburg in 2005, I stopped into a Sbarro pizza joint. Got a couple of pizza slices and took them to a table. I picked up a slice and folded it, you know, like people do to eat pizza. At once, the entire restaurant stopped what they were doing mid-bite and started staring at me like I had just sprouted another head.

A 1980 release, too! You might be as old as me ... and I've been around since dirt arrived.

The tipsy victims were probably too eager to knock back yet another vodka offered by a seemingly kindhearted person. Oops.

Too trusting. When attending biker parties, I would tell people, especially females, always get an unopened beer, mix your own drink, don’t leave your drink unattended and never, ever take a drink from a bottle that was being passed around!

Excellent, that's solidly good advice for anyone.
Punchbowls of drink are also another potential danger.
