"He didn't win the Cold War single-handedly, but he did succeed in getting House Democrats to back Reagan's foreign policy in Afghanistan, which was quite a stretch for them. "

I should have added the "/s" tag to my comment. I was being facetious, but I didn't want to dance so overtly on the man's very fresh grave.

When I watched that movie, I was stunned that Reagan's name wasn't mentioned once - not one time. If a person relied on that movie to paint their historical perspective on those events, they would be grossly misinformed.

It was mentioned indirectly. One of the characters says to Charlie that he has managed to get the House Democrats to march in lockstep with "the President's" foreign policy.

It was a grudging Hollywood way of admitting partial admiration.

When I watched that movie, I was stunned that Reagan's name wasn't mentioned once - not one time.

And when they interviewed Wilson and asked him how close the movie came to reality, he said they did pretty good but he was disappointed that they left out the importance of Reagan to the program. He said without Reagan's blessing and backing, nothing would have happened.

My favorite Charlie Wilson quote: When questioned about his habit of having only hot young women on his staff, he remarked "you can teach'em to type, you can't teach'em to grow t*ts..."
