Of course Iran might be “BJ Hunnicutting” us. By just doing nothing, but watching us freak out over what they might do.

So would the U.S. crank up the alert level if we were in greater or imminent danger?

Honestly, if I was their crazy @ss religious leadership, I’d attack most of the major non-Iranian oil fields at the same time I launched a simultaneous attack on Israel with the help of anti-Israeli guerrilla forces on the ground. Even if there was retaliation, the resulting oil shortage would cripple us immensely, and massive damage would be done to Israel. I don’t think the religious leaders over there care what it costs them if they can cripple the west and lay waste to Israel. We’re dealing with hardcore zealots.

yeah...how often does a DEMOCRAT admit that “our government is very, very, very concerned” about something like this. Unless, the Dems are doing some political grandstanding to make it LOOK like they actually care.

Not necessarily only that. The two actions could be related though.

The value of Russian oil goes up as well.

You need a lot of ballastic missile firepower to pull something like that off. Doubt seriously if you could build something like that without concealing it from satellites for very long.

It’ll be an interesting day tonight. It’s about 1 AM on Feb 11 there right now.

By the time you are settling into your second sitcom tonight it will be about 9AM there.

Whatever’s going to happen, you’ll sleep through it.

The photo goes to show the lengths Iranians are willing to go to get outside communications in their country.
Most popular satellite channels include BBC persia, VOA (voice of america), and Turkish soap operas. LOL.

Iran’s supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei said in a speech that:

“The Iranian nation, with its unity and God’s grace, will punch the arrogance (Western Powers) on the 22nd of Bahman (February 11) in a way that will leave them stunned.”

Pretty serious threat. And it's pointed at us (the West) - not the Iranian dissidents.

If these nutjobs weren't so close to having deployable nukes, I would be laughing, but I'm not. Apparently, Washington is taking them seriously, and so am I (not that I can do anything about it, of course).

All I can say is that Mahmoud had better take his best shot, and hope like hell that he kills every Westerner. If he doesn't, he's going to see a hellfire of unimaginable proportions.

You’re right about the firepower. That’s the only scenario I would consider, but they’re in no position to do it. The only scenario I believe would shock the world, is if they detonate a small kiloton nuke on their own soil, tell everyone they have more of them, whether they really do or not, and announce that they can mount them on their current delivery systems, which they have pointed at Israel. No real attack, and even if they only really have the one, no one is going to call them on their bluff. They will probably assume Israel won’t risk hitting them if there’s a chance of nuclear retaliation, freeing them to do whatever they want under a nuclear umbrella. It would tie everyone’s hands, and Iran would be a nuclear power.

I don’t. There is no way in hell they would try some sh*t like that. It’s all bluster, to make us worry for weeks.

I would agree, but it wouldn’t be enough to detonate it. I’ve read posts today suggesting Iran’s already done an underground nuclear detonation.

They have to DELIVER a nuclear weapon to be a credible threat.

Hitting one of our carriers in the Gulf would do that, and I’m not sure we’d respond to the attack with a counterattack.

They might be able to take some of our ships out already, if they really have Sunburn based missiles. I don’t think our defensive upgrades are complete, and even if they are, there’s no guarantee that someone hasn’t found a way to circumvent them. But I can’t see them hitting us and risking major retaliation and pressure on our mutual allies that have no reason to cut ties with Iran right now. Russia and China would be hard pressed to keep dragging their feet on Iran if they blew one of our ships out of the water. And I don’t think they’re ready for an all out go at Israel without nukes to back it up, so I’d bet on a test or posturing. If it wasn’t coming from the Ayatollah, I wouldn’t even worry about it, but you never know what’s going to happen when you get a religious zealot involved.

Although, hitting an Israeli ship with a anti-ship nuke would make a huge point.

Doesn’t matter if you hit an Israeli or a US ship, the message would be the same - “If Iran can whack a US Naval vessel with a nuke, then what is the definition of superpower?”

If we hit Iran back, and Russia/China decide they will retaliate as if we’d attacked either of them, then what? Would we? I doubt that seriously if Obama or Mullen is making the call.

Israel, on the other hand, may not make such fine distinctions and retaliate anyway. It may have been the message passed to Russia by Bibi last month anyway.

Interesting how Biblical this is getting. Ezekiel talks about the Great Army of the North coming down into Israel to take a great spoil. The speculation was always that it would be Russia of course.

Yeah, a buddy and I were just discussing that the other day. Times are starting to look a little biblical. Huge earthquake in Haiti, earthquake in Yellowstone, record setting blizzard in D.C., a 3.8 in Chicago today, Odumbo’s home town, and tension building in the middle east. I’m waiting for the major shoe to drop.

They've been doing this routinely since the original Green uprising. My guess it, it's a new round of satellite/phone confiscations.
