Simon Jenkins raises a question that has been nagging at me for some time. Why is there no British Tea Party?
Where are the crowds of revenue slaves flocking to London to demand redress for the squandering of their money? Marginal tax is rising to 50%, VAT to 17.5% and state spending towards half the national product. The Treasury has lost control of public finance. So why no furious blue-rinses, bail-out haters, bonus-bleaters and embittered VAT victims storming Parliament?
Yeah: why? Some of my US readers believe that anti-tax rebellions are an American speciality, but weve had plenty of them in this country, from the Poll Tax Riots of 1381 (the Peasants Revolt) to the Poll Tax Riots of 1990. The doctrines that inspired the Boston mutineers above all, the idea that taxes should not be levied without parliamentary process were borrowed from English political theory.

Might be too late though.
I’ll tell you why there won’t be and I came from there.
Because the masses are too simple lazy, yes they moan, they complain, but they have no get up and go. They cannot give their own time up because they have things to do like get some beers or watch the game on a saturday etc.
The masses you do see demonstrating is done by the unions and scruffy smelly students.
The masses on the other hand has no leadership to direct them.
Neither did our masses and the TEA party got launched without leaders here
different views there believe me.
There is constant grumblings and that is why the conservative party will win(though they’re not conservative).
many moan but they don’t even bother gong to vote, infact I know of only two people who votes and their my old next door neighbors.
My foster mother who grew up in the world war and saw the Germans bombing our city has never voted in her life.
Most cannot be bothered to vote let alone get up and demonstrate
Daniel Hannan to the US for Harry Reed, a first round draft pick, three AAA liberal prospects to be named later, cash, and a gross of cricket balls.
Because here in the United States we are Citizens. In formerly “Great” Britain they are SUBJECTS.
it certainly is
here there is a constitution and freedom of speech over there they have the Govt and that is it.
I know both countries and for sure tea parties will never happen like here.
Look at the immigration and emigration. Pakistani muslims have areas now where no white person or christian can go, churches have been burned and a priest attacked, people have been burned alive and killed.
There was no demonstrating .
What did happen was that some soldiers had enough of being called killers etc by muslims so they marched and the police went after soldiers who then were attacked.
The BBC said it was right wing racists looking to cause a race riot.
The best thing I ever did after I left the military was leave that country, I still love it but not like I did and not like America
That is why they are being governed from Brussels and the EU is about to seat 27 incompetents as its Politburo.
>>Ill tell you why there wont be and I came from there.

Reminds me of Canada where I’m originally from. Most items are federalized such as beer, liquor, car insurance, health “insurance”. The most stubborn mentality is that there is a defeatist mentality that it’s 1) America’s fault and let’s not like be Americans and 2) hockey is more important than anything else. The gubmint’ is God even though the taxes are insane as a socialist govt.
Oliver Cromwell, paging Oliver Cromwell.
nail on head
beer and football(soccer) is far more important than the pesky Govt taking over your life and then robbing you of money and freedom
