It's the Seven Nation Army against the U.S. Air Force Reserve: the White Stripes have taken "strong insult and objection" to a recruitment ad that aired during the Super Bowl. Jack and Meg White's issue with the TV spot? They claim the music used in the commercial is a rip-off of their 2002 breakout single, "Fell in Love with a Girl."
"We believe our song was re-recorded and used without permission of the White Stripes, our publishers, label or management," the band wrote in a statement posted on their official website.
"We have not licensed this song to the Air Force Reserve and we plan to take strong action to stop the ad containing this music."

Their song got ripped off by the U.S. Air Force?
What’s Johnny Depp doing with that ugly chick?
The White Stripes:
White Americans, what? Nothing better to do?
Why don’t you kick yourself out? You’re an immigrant, too.
Who’s using who? What should we do?
Well, you can’t be a pimp and a prostitute, too.
Who’d want their ad to have anything to do with them?
If they ask nicely, Ted Nugent might donate an alternative song for free.
Somebody scrod up at their ad agency.
If the song is indeed theirs, I would say whoever the Air Force put in charge of making the ad is probably the guilty party here. I am sure someone was commissioned by the ad agency to ‘write’ the music and it’s possible that everyone in the food chain probably didn’t recognize the song and this is why it was allowed. If there was plagiarism, I doubt the Air Force knew anything about it. Of course, Jack and Meg White are total Libs who abhor the military and it is funny to see both of them get their panties in a twist.
Meg White, ugly? Not in my opinion. I think she’s quite attractive in many ways. Besides her face, which I find to be both cute and serene, her hands and arms are unusually graceful. As a professional artist, I’ve learned to look for and appreciate such simple beauty in the human form over the years.
But all that is beside the main point: her skill as a musician. I (as a former drummer) find her drum style to be stark, deft, and in general exquisite — one perfect half of the two-piece Stripes sound.
It’s not going to be so funny to see the settlement of the copyright lawsuit.
How much damage is there? If they pulled the ad early, it will be a nominal settlement and the government will go after it’s contractor. They will lose more in producing an ad that they had to axe early than they will in any kind of royalty payments.
Who cares if the U.S. Air Force used it, it’s not like they used it to profit off of it. It’s the military for crying out loud. They should be proud.
I’m betting these 2 clowns have never heard of the Super Bowl yet are gung-ho about suing the US military. Unfortunately, I read an interview of them in the airplane mag rack and they are indeed, brain-dead liberals.
They are perfectly right in that they should have been notified and had the opportunity not to give permission. IT’S THEIR SONG....Being libs just makes them look stupid.
Lousy drummer, but they pull it off. Jack’s a brilliant musician and can play around and exploit Meg’s weaknesses....
Heard the song, lot’s of screaming.
Anyone have a link to the Air Force Ad (can’t find it on youtube) ?
Not really. It’s a property rights issue.
I don't know, but I wouldn't go to the link that the article tells you to go to. The band put together side-by-side links, but when you try to go to the AF Reserve links you get the Plungin Error Messages from Hell - you know the ones where you hit "OK" but it just pops back up 72 times until you have to turn off you computer to stop the madness?
Copyright infringement is much more expensive than royalty payments. Much more expensive.
I like White Stripes, and they should be compensated for their music being ripped off. That said, if I were an attorney for whoever produced the ad I’d be looking at riffs in White Stripes music to see who they’ve ripped off (be pretty tough to find with them)....
