There is no system for the missionaries to access in Haiti. There was no physical location for them to even go to for the paperwork. After the “authorities” picked them up, they tried to shake the missionaries down for $300 per child. When the missionaries couldn’t or wouldn’t pay, they were charged with kidnapping, arrested and jailed. Now, what that says is that the kids were not the issue with the authorities, to the extent the authroities are real authorities. The money was the issue. The kids were good to go as far as these “authorities” were concerned until the missionaries refused to pay up. They were probably lower or mid-level “officials” who thought they had some “rich” Americans they could shake down to pad their own pockets instead of them always having to watch the guys at the top get the American gravy $.
Sovereignty? LMAO. This was a shakedown.
The “authorities” of this exalted “sovereign” nation demanded money from private American citizens and when they didn’t get it, suddenly the missionaries were committing a crime. The “authorities” of this “sovereign” nation were perfectly happy to “sell” these kids for $300 per head. When they didn’t get it, they resorted to the same thuggery we see in all the other tinpot, banana republics around the world. The only kidnapping that happened here was of the missionaries when they were jailed, not in the effort to take the kids to the DR.
Get a clue.
yeah?....and??? and what do you expect from the 3rd world.....btw there are other nations that make it easier to adopt....like Guatemala and the Philippines...stay out of the worst offenders and the heck with em...
