Generic Congressional Ballot (R 44%, D 36%)
Rasmussen Reports ^ | Feb 8, 2010 | Scott Rasmussen

Posted on 02/09/2010 7:13:05 PM PST by SmartInsight

Republican candidates lead Democrats by eight points in the latest edition of the Generic Congressional Ballot, marking little change since the first of the year.

Republicans started the year ahead by nine points -- their largest lead in several years -- while support for Democrats fell to its lowest level in years. Republicans have held the lead on the Generic Ballot for several months now.

But in a three-way congressional contest with a Tea Party candidate on the ballot, the Democrat earns 36% support. The GOP candidate comes in second with 25% of the vote, and the Tea Party candidate picks up 17%. Twenty-three percent (23%) are undecided.

A little over a year ago, Jan 2008, the Dems were ahead of Republicans by 42% to 36%.

What a change in year!

I realize that this is a very complicated for conservatives to understand, but I’ll try to explain anyway:

VOTE TEA PARTY >> DEMOCRATIC WIN

The Dems and the media will do ALL they can to split off the Tea Party from the Republicans (and so will people like Steele, but that’s another problem). The Tea Party has shown what they can do when they unite with Republicans (aka, NJ, VA, and MA)...it is up to them to figure out that dividing from Republicans is the kiss of death to us all (maybe literally)...so don’t let the media get away with.

A Republican, Bob Castelli, won a special election tonight for an open assembly seat in the NY State senate....not a big deal except it was the 89th district- a blatantly liberal area which included Chappaqua...

The tea party movement is not interested in the least of being a third party entity. Unlike the media that tries to push it in this direction, they are just a tad smarter in that they will identify and support the most conservative and constitutionally grounded candidate for a particular race.

This sounds like whoever commissioned this poll was desires of the results to show the tea party in a weaker position than either one of the two mainstream parties.

A very unwise thing to do Scott. There won't be a Tea Party candidate on the ballot so your poll is completely wrong.

i thought the GOP edge was a couple points higher a couple weeks ago. Hope they keep the momentum instead of going “bipartisan”.

Ironically, it’s the disunity that causing the positive change.

I don’t quite understand why Rasmussen put it the way he did, because he made it appear that the activism of the Tea Party is as a third party. It’s not.

Perhaps Rasmussen was implying that were the “Tea Party” a third party their standing would be 17%.

The “Tea Party” activists are not in support of Democrats, so I would believe their Conservative influence would be in association with the GOP.

Sarah Palin is urging a “merger” as well.

Appearing on FOX News’ “On the Record,” January 28, Sarah Palin was asked by host Greta Van Susteren whether she thinks the Tea Party movement will lead to a third party or a merger with the GOP:

VAN SUSTEREN: All right, in terms of the tea party movement, is it likely to create the issue that happened in ‘92 with Ross Perot and President Bush, or will it merge with the Republican Party? And how do you see that happening?

PALIN: They need to merge. Definitely, they need to merge. I think those who are wanting the divisions and the divisiveness and the controversy — those are the ones who don’t believe in the message. And they’re the ones, I think, stirring it up. We need to ignore that and we need to forge ahead with a cohesive message. It’s a common sense message. It, again, is, Government, limit yourself so that the private sector, our families, free individuals can grow and thrive and prosper and enjoy America’s freedom!

Wrong, wrong, wrong. Split off the tea party from the democrats, win big, just like Brown. He is a third party candidate, everyone is just too stupid to realize it.

I sure hope you are correct. That has long been my policy in deciding who to support in each election cycle.

I am an active member of the First Coast Tea Party which is a member of the Tea Party Patriots national group and it is our published mission ststement to do so. Furthermore, the 501C tax status of the organization prohibits any action or endorsement of a political party. What it specifically does let us do is to endorse individual candidates. It is designed to be top down leaderless and the power of the organization resides in the membership much like the Constitutioon.
