BBC Ex-USSR: Iran aiming to provoke regional military conflict - Russian exper 91) ☆ By enriching uranium to a higher grade, Iran is embarking on a deliberate course of provoking a military conflict in the Middle East due to its unstable domestic situation, Aleksey Arbatov, head of the International Security Centre of the Russian Academy of Sciences' Institute of World Economy and International Relations, said in a live interview to Russian Defence Ministry-controlled Zvezda TV on 9 February. He also said that Tehran will suddenly announce it has developed a nuclear weapon, and noted that 20 per cent-grade uranium was sufficient to develop a primitive but functioning nuclear device. On 9 February Iran announced that it had started enriching uranium to
That particlar NIE was changed at the request of the Dems in the Senate. Or something like that - Bush had nothing to do with it - the Dems held all the strings at tha tpont.
The NIE rerefered only to developing nuke capeable missles, not making the weapon per se. But the media played it up as if Iran was becoming friendlier and just talking with them would solve everything,
Creepy monsters.
2.5-3.5% enrichment is enough to drive a chain reaction.
This is what is typically used in power plants.
The isotopes used to enrich the naturally occuring uranium ore are uranium 235 and plutonium 239.
Natural uranium (yellowcake) contains about 0.7% U235.
I can tell you exactly what will happen on Feb 11th. ;-)
Millions in the NE will be shoveling snow, trying desperately to find milk and bread, going on a beer run but settling for something else because their favorite will be gone. They might also have another snowball fight at 14th and U Sts. in DC, but hopefully no one will throw snowballs at a car and stir up an angry off-duty cop who has the ???? to pull a gun on 200 young people having fun.
Sure wish we could give all this snow to the Iranian Govt.
FYI *ping* - here’s lots of info re: Feb.11th, just in case you’re interested.
Read this posting by FARS in this thread, I think it’s post no.67 I am pinging you to. There are NO jokes in the link he provides, just serious assessment of all possibilities.
Thanks for the link. Interesting, and alarming, article.
No sh*t.
They have telephones in Hell?
That said, remember too, that PLENTY of people very seriously believe that the two of them are referring to a PARADE... a huge, many hours long parade signifying total unity amongst the Iranians.
We'll find out soon.
LOLOLOL — omg!!!! You guys are SO funny, stop making me laFF so hard!! rofl!
I tried to figure out what they might try to pull as I was going to sleep last night.
The following occurred to me.
Russia is colluding with Iran behind the scene, and China too. They will do something to destroy our economy, since they know we are underwater and deep in debt. Why waste weapons against our military, when economic warfare is so much easier against a wounded “superpower”?

Say, did you happen to see the thread about the Chinese military today?? I'll bet you didn't I'll try to find you the link.
Thanks FARS for the ping and link, and hennie pennie for the ping.
Thanks, hennie pennie. I got your ping, and posted a reply. I notice that one Freeper doesn’t think much of the idea, and I so hope he is right, and I am wrong!
It’s very likely that they will “announce” their bomb.
I don’t think they will explode it: Just making an announcement is a fact (or a political drama) that they CAN control.
If they “announce” they are going to explode their bomb (before it explodes!), then they are going to set themselves up for a major failure and embarrassment. If they thought their bomb would really work, then they’d simply blow it up as a surprise.
But “announcing” a bomb is a publicity stunt that requires no proof. And gives them all the “glory.”
(Hmmmn. More likely, if they really “knew” it was going to blow up, they’d ship it FedEx to Jerusalem THEN blow it up unannounced. )

I think you will find the analysis at the above link to be very interesting.
