There's also a young veteran on the Democrat side who announced his intentions to challenge Murtha in the primary before he took ill. I think he is too gay-friendly for SW Pennsylvania.
This part of the state is very provincial. Having been born and raised in the area seems to carry a lot of weight for many voters. They don't replace local politicians very easily.
Interestingly, the last guy to represent this district, John P. Saylor, a Republican, also died in office. He had been there a quarter century or so.
No doubt Murtha now resides in a Marxian Valhalla where the thermostat is perpetually turned too high.

But that will be up for re-election and that dimocrats aren’t doing too well there.

whoops mccain in ‘08. This seems to be going away from the Dems. Another point is that this district is in the Scotts-Irish belt as Barone calls it. They are particularly po’d at what is going on.
They are trying to get the Senate version passed, which has even less support in the House.
And actually, if I had paid attention to your screen name rather than just flapping my gums mindlessly, I’d have seen that FReeper Marines were already weighing in on the matter. :-)

I live fairly close to Johnstown, and I understand the folks that live there. I don’t know anything about the opponent you mentioned, but if he has similar political views as Russell, then, I wish him well.

Tennessee has joined several other states in trying to pass a Health Care Freedom Act. NO COLAs for granny, retired Military or retired fed employees. BIG NEW fees for Tricare for Life retired over 65 Military's secondary health ins. (DOD bill already passed, delayed but goes into effect 2011)
