Who would back down from such a loftly place in the world? Hence the lack of reflection upon past policies and their effectiveness, and the repeated bleat that what is needed to make a failed policy work is "more money".

Liberalism, by it’s very name, is an intellectual discipline. It requires a respect for difference, an openness to new ideas and a nuanced appreciation for the multi-disciplinary issues that surround complex policy decisions.

Conservatives, in contrast, as their name suggests, try to retain the status quo. They are suspicious of change, see only ‘right’ and ‘common sense’ solutions to problems and prefer broad strokes ‘tax cuts’, ‘a strong defense’, ‘American freedom’ when it comes to policy decisions. Liberalism, regardless of whether it is right or wrong, is simply more intellectual. Hence, its solutions will always come across as condescending to Conservatives. On the flip side, Conservatives will always resort to Populism: simplicity, screaming, yelling, doomsday forecasts, sound bites, fear and other soapbox tactics to get their point across. That will always come across as ignorant, obfuscating, reactionary and retarded to Liberals.

Real conservatism, understanding the underpinnings of conservatism is an intellectual endeavor. It is not a matter of rejecting change. It is a matter of rationally, logically, preserving the very best of a society for the sake of its present and future.

Modern liberalism is about emoting, about feeling good. Logic and rationality never need intrude.

Liberals are so condescending because in today’s society, they know they will be protected. In older societies and in history, liberals would be class that goes extinct because they do not work and are the first to get their butts kicked for their smart ass remarks and attitudes. And if there happened to be a confrontation, a liberal got dead quickly.

Here’s my two cents: liberals by an large are highly secular, thus their “religious” feelings of certainty and truth are transferred to their political beliefs, which they uphold as a kind of secular religion.

Conservatives, by and large, hold either strong religious views or, if they are secular, are predisposed to the understanding that mankind is frail and fallible.
